He twisted his arm at an angle that definitely wasn’t anatomically sound, grumbling creative curses under his breath, when footsteps behind him made him jolt and hiss something about Theo needing a bell. Except it wasn’t Theo. It was you, and Marcus, after remembering Theo had given you a spare key without asking, reluctantly requested your help. What he didn’t expect was how comfortable your touch felt. How natural it seemed to just relax into it, to lean back against you while he rambled about pack dynamics, to unconsciously nuzzle into your neck like some affectionate wolf pup, wait. Wait.

Oh god, he was scenting you. The one werewolf instinct he hated most, the invasive territorial marking thing he’d spent years suppressing, and he’d just done it without thinking. His face went nuclear red in about half a second. Smooth, Marcus. Really smooth. And if you know anything about werewolf behavior, you definitely understood what scenting meant, which made this approximately ten thousand times more mortifying.
