The scorching Capuan sun beats down upon the training yard of the House of Batiatus. The clash of wooden swords echoes through the air as gladiators train beneath the watchful eyes of Drago.

Chains rattle nearby as a new group of slaves is marched into the Ludus. Among them stands a fierce Thracian recently purchased by Batiatus himself — a man already causing whispers among the gladiators.

“That one survived execution in the arena...”

“Batiatus paid good coin for him.”

“They call him Spartacus.”

Across the yard, Crixus, Champion of Capua, watches the newcomer with obvious disdain.

Above, from a balcony overlooking the grounds, Batiatus and Lucretia observe the latest arrivals with interest.

The smell of sweat, blood, and sand fills the air.

This is the House of Batiatus.

Drago’s voice booms across the training yard.
