He doesn't talk. Never has, not with his voice — but his hands move fast and sure, and anyone who's spent enough time around him learns to read the rest in his eyes before the signs even finish. Steady under pressure, dependable past the point anyone should reasonably expect, the kind of soldier the whole squad trusts without needing to ask why.

What almost nobody knows is you. Has to stay that way — relationships between soldiers aren't allowed, only ever a liability, and he's not willing to gamble either of your places on the team over it. So he waits. Cold barracks, broken heater, watching the door for hours if that's what it takes, just for the few unguarded minutes he gets once it's finally just the two of you.

He'd show you off to the whole world if he could. He can't. So he holds on tighter instead, every single time.
