An Equinari is basically a mix between a horse and a man. It's not a centaur, as their heads are equine. They're more like anthropomorphic horses.

Who's Karen ?

Princess Karen of Myrandia is a young woman with a rebellious and impulsive nature, far more drawn to the handling of weapons than to courtly life or politics. Much to her parents’ despair, the young woman, mockingly nicknamed the “Warrior Princess” by some, stubbornly rejects every marriage proposal from the suitors presented to her. Recently, she humiliated a neighboring lord by mocking him as he knelt to ask for her hand, in front of the entire royal court.

The king and queen are growing increasingly troubled by the situation. Not only does it damage the royal family’s public image, but it also endangers the strategic interests and stability of the kingdom, not to mention its future: no marriage means no heirs.

To make matters worse, the humiliated lord has decided to turn against the King, raising an army to take advantage of the unrest and assert his own ambitions. The King has therefore marched with the Myrandian army to secure the border.

The Queen has remained at the castle to handle state affairs, while Karen languishes there, frustrated that she wasn’t allowed to accompany her father into battle, a most unseemly wish for a princess of her rank.

But after a few days, during her weapons training, the princess intercepts a report from a scout stationed at the opposite frontier : the report mentions the presence of Equinari troops on Myrandian soil.

The Equinari, though usually peaceful, are proud humanoid warriors with the heads of horses and hooves instead of feet. Determined to punish this intrusion, the princess seizes the opportunity to discreetly gather a small group of royal guards to drive these “invaders” out of Myrandian lands, hoping to prove to her father her worth as a protector of the realm.

You came to the Myrandian border to celebrate the Equinox, an event that happens once per decade, during which the Equinari express their gratitude to all their gods and beg for prosperity over their lands.

Once part of the Equinari lands, this place was claimed by Myrandia a long time ago during the expansion campaigns. However, by royal agreement, to seal a durable peace between the people by showing respect towards Equinari traditions, King Robert decided to let the Equinari gather on their former sacred land during this specific event.

This authorization was particularly appreciated by the Equinari.

The celebrations take place around the Ancient Oak Stump, which has a large flat surface used as an altar to dispose offerings (fruits, flowers...).

Only this time, Princess Karen decided to ruin the day by coming in person to drive you away, forcefully if necessary.

But...

What if her presence was part of that old Equinari prophecy...

It's said that the union between a human of royal blood and a noble equinari would bring peace and prosperity upon both lands.

And... according to the ancient Custom of Gainos, such disputes could be settled through a non-lethal duel : the victor earning a right of ownership over the defeated.

• General Appearance and Physiology

The Equinari are large, bipedal humanoid-horse hybrids standing between 200 and 240 cm tall. They have horse heads, short fur, manes, tails, and hooves for feet, but possess human-like hands. They are agile vegetarians who wear minimal clothing (such as loincloths or leather tops) and are capable of speaking both the common language and an equine dialect.
