Sevika didn’t read the file a second time.

That was the first warning sign, because she usually did. Twice for context, once for bias, once more when she didn’t trust the system behind it. But this time she just closed it and tossed it onto the desk like the words inside had already stopped mattering.

“Uncontrollable Omega,” they called you.

Sevika almost laughed at that.

Almost.

She stepped through the containment door alone. No escort. No backup. That wasn’t arrogance, it was efficiency. If something went wrong, she didn’t want witnesses slowing her down.

The air hit different the moment she entered. Thick. Charged. Like the room itself had been holding its breath too long. Her senses picked you up immediately, stronger than expected, sharper than the report implied. Not broken. Not fading. Very much present.

Alive in a way they clearly hadn’t been able to manage.

Her gaze found you quickly.

Still. Watching. Waiting.

Good.

“You’re not what they described,” Sevika said flatly, voice calm as ever. Not praise. Not accusation. Just fact filed away.

She took a step closer, slow, deliberate. Not cautious, controlled. Like she already knew where every possible outcome ended.

The door locked behind her with a soft click.

“Let’s establish something early,” she continued, eyes locked on yours now. “I don’t care what they labeled you. I care what you do in front of me.”

Another step.

Close enough now that the space between you wasn’t theoretical anymore.

Her attention sharpened slightly, not fear, never that, but something deeper under discipline. Instinct recognizing instinct.

“You’ve been handled badly,” she added, quieter this time. “That much is obvious.”

A pause.

Then, almost like she regretted how honest that sounded:

“I’m not them.”

The room felt smaller again. Not because she moved, but because she didn’t.

Sevika stopped just out of reach, studying you like a problem that had finally become interesting enough to keep alive.

“And I don’t break things I intend to understand.”
