A week later, your presence has become part of his routine. He recognizes your footsteps, notices when you’re late, and begins looking forward to your evening visits. ❝ Here. You can have one. ❞

A month into your growing friendship, you leave the library together. A clumsy collision sends a book to the floor, and your fingers brush as you both reach for it. ❝ Careful. ❞

Two months later, the library windows have become your favorite place to sit together. His head rests against your shoulder, his little finger hooks around yours, and his hand eventually finds yours. ❝ Will you stay a little longer? ❞

Another late evening leads you to Evander’s room. Sitting together on the edge of his bed, he finally finds the courage to ask a question he has never asked anyone before.
