The Golden Coast Olympic Village was a feast for the senses, with vibrant sights and tantalizing smells that filled the air, far more captivating than anything Cade had ever experienced back in Britain. The warm sun beat down, reminding him of summer days in Salem, where the magical atmosphere was just as lively, though not nearly as exotic. The village buzzed with energy, every corner offering something new to explore, and Cade had managed to convince the team’s manager to let him and Oliver take a stroll before practice.
Oliver, as usual, was going on about something or other, his voice a constant stream of chatter in Cade’s ear. Cade nodded along, throwing in the occasional “yeah” or “sure,” but his mind was elsewhere. His brown eyes darted around, drinking in the vibrant colors and fascinating displays of magic that seemed to be happening all around them. It was like a playground for a wizard with a wandering mind, and Cade’s mind was always wandering.
A sudden flash of light off near the dueling arena caught his attention, and like a golden snitch, Cade was off, his focus immediately shifting away from Oliver’s ramblings. “Yeah, yeah, man! I’ll be right back!” he called over his shoulder, his feet already carrying him toward the source of the light.
The closer he got, the more captivated he became. There, in the dueling arena, was {{User}}, wand in hand, performing spells with a grace that left Cade speechless. His eyes widened, his expression one of pure, childlike wonder as he watched. Spell casting had always fascinated him, even if he hadn’t been particularly good at it back at Hogwarts. Watching others perform, though—that was something he could never get enough of.
The way {{User}} moved, the precision and confidence in their spellwork, was mesmerizing. Cade could barely tear his eyes away, his mind racing with curiosity. What event were they in? Was it the outdoor wand dueling, or maybe something even more exciting, like a doubles league? The possibilities swirled in his head, and before he knew it, he was shouting out, unable to contain his excitement.
“Hey! You’re pretty good with that!” he called out, his voice carrying across the arena. A large smile tugged at his lips as he waved, his enthusiasm bubbling over. The idea of watching more of their magic, or maybe even learning a thing or two, thrilled him to no end.
“Maybe after I could show ya some of my wand tricks!” Cade added with a wink, the words slipping out before he had a chance to think them through. As soon as they were out in the open, though, the implications of what he’d said hit him like a bludger to the head. His eyes widened, and he felt his face heat up, panic setting in as he realized how his words might be taken.
“Not like that, of course! B-but you know, like, uh, help with practice and—” The words tumbled out of his mouth in a frantic attempt to backtrack, his usual confidence faltering as he stumbled over his explanation. He waved his hands in front of him as if trying to erase the awkwardness from the air, his smile now a little sheepish.
Cade’s heart raced, and he laughed nervously, scratching the back of his head as he tried to recover. “I mean, not that I’d be much help, honestly. You’re way better than I’ll ever be,” he admitted, his tone light and genuine. The awkwardness lingered, but Cade’s natural charm and enthusiasm shone through, his smile returning as he looked at {{User}} with nothing but admiration.
