Oxygen: There is almost no breathable oxygen. Oxygen makes up just 0.15% to 0.17% of the atmosphere, which is about 10,000 times less than what is found on Earth. The atmosphere is composed primarily of carbon dioxide (about 95%).
Dust Storms: The winds on Mars routinely whip up dust, creating everything from small, tornado-like "dust devils" to massive storms that can cover the entire planet.
Clouds: Despite being incredibly dry, Mars features wispy clouds. These clouds fall into two main types: water-ice clouds (often gathering around tall volcanoes) and high-altitude, carbon-dioxide (dry ice) clouds.
Quakes: Mars is seismically active, though it does not have moving tectonic plates like Earth. NASA's InSight lander detected hundreds of "marsquakes" triggered by the fracturing and cooling of the planet's crust.
Rocks: The surface is littered with volcanic and sedimentary rocks. Many of these are iron-heavy, fractured by asteroid impacts, and heavily weathered by abrasive, wind-blown dust.
Water: There is no running liquid water on the surface today because the atmosphere is too thin and cold. However, water exists as ice locked in the polar caps and mixed into the dirt. There is also evidence that salty, briny water might occasionally form damp streaks on certain hillsides. Billions of years ago, Mars was much wetter, with ancient lakes and rivers covering its surface.

MERCURY
Mercury is the smallest and innermost planet in our Solar System, famous for its lack of a substantial atmosphere, massive iron core, and extreme temperature swings. [1, 2, 3]

Mercury does not have a breathable atmosphere. Instead, it has a surface-bound exosphere. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Composition Proportion: Data indicates that the extremely thin exosphere consists of roughly 42% oxygen (\(O_{2}\)), 29% sodium, 22% hydrogen, and 6% helium.
The Catch: While 42% sounds high, the exosphere is essentially a vacuum (\(10^{-15}\) bar). The total weight of Mercury's entire atmosphere is less than 1,000 kilograms (2,200 lbs).

2. Surface and Skin Temperature
Because Mercury has no thick atmosphere to trap heat or insulate the planet, it experiences the most extreme temperature swings in the Solar System. [1, 2]

VENUS
Venus is the second planet from the Sun and Earth’s closest planetary neighbor. Often called Earth's "evil twin," it is nearly the same size and mass but is the hottest planet in the solar system. Its crushing atmosphere, toxic clouds, and extreme heat make it completely uninhabitable. [1, 2, 3]

1. Surface and Clouds
The Atmosphere: The atmosphere is a brutally thick blanket composed of about 96.5% carbon dioxide and 3.5% nitrogen. This causes a runaway greenhouse effect, trapping heat and resulting in surface temperatures hot enough to melt lead: \(464^{\circ}C\) (\(867^{\circ}F\)).

Venus does not have the breathable molecular oxygen (\(O_{2}\)) that sustains life on Earth.

JUPITER
Jupiter is a massive gas giant—the largest planet in our solar system. It is known as the "King of Planets" and has no solid surface. Instead of a rocky exterior, Jupiter features a liquid and gaseous "skin" that transitions from a thick atmosphere into a vast ocean of liquid metallic hydrogen. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Details about its structure, atmosphere, and storms include:
Failed Star: Jupiter is considered a "failed star" because it is primarily made of hydrogen and helium—the same ingredients as a star. However, it never grew large enough (it would need to be roughly 75 times more massive) to generate the internal pressure and heat needed to ignite nuclear fusion.
Inside Jupiter: Beneath its swirling atmosphere, the pressure is so immense that hydrogen transforms into a bizarre state of liquid metal. At its very center, scientists suspect there is a dense, super-hot core of rocky and icy material.
The Clouds: Jupiter’s clouds exist in three distinct layers. The top layer is made of ammonia ice, the middle layer of ammonium hydrosulfide crystals, and the bottom layer of water ice and vapor. The vivid colored bands (or stripes) are caused by sulfur and phosphorus compounds upwelling from deep inside.
The Great Red Spot: Inside this massive, hurricane-like storm—which is larger than Earth—lies a swirling vortex of high-pressure clouds. The iconic red coloration is believed to be created when chemical compounds from deep within the atmosphere are broken apart by solar UV light.
Temperature: Jupiter has a multi-layered thermal profile. The temperature at the visible cloud tops drops to roughly \(-234 \phantom{\,}^{\circ}\text{F}\) (\(-145 \phantom{\,}^{\circ}\text{C}\)). What it is: The largest natural satellite in the solar system. It has a rocky mantle and an iron core, and is the only moon known to generate its own magnetic field (which produces stunning auroras).
Ocean size: The ocean is estimated to be about \(100 \text{ km}\) (\(60 \text{ miles}\)) deep, which is roughly 10 times deeper than Earth's oceans.
Is it bigger than Earth's oceans? Yes. It holds an estimated 2 to 30 times more water volume than all of Earth's oceans combined.
Temperature: It is intensely cold. Surface temperatures average around \(-160^{\circ }\text{C}\) (\(-256^{\circ }\text{F}\)), locking the top \(150 \text{ km}\) (\(95 \text{ miles}\)) of the moon in a thick, frozen crust.

SATURN
Saturn is the sixth planet from the Sun, best known as the "Ringed Planet" or "Lord of the Rings". It is a massive gas giant with no solid surface. [1, 2, 3]
Size: Saturn is the second-largest planet in the solar system. Its diameter is roughly 72,367 miles (116,460 km)—about 9 times wider than Earth's.
The Rings: They are not solid structures, but rather a glittering, complex system of billions of individual particles made of mostly water ice and some rocky debris. Ranging in size from tiny dust specs to massive boulders, the rings are about \(282,000\) km across but only about 30 feet (10 meters) thick in most places.
What's Inside: It lacks solid land. Beneath its thick atmosphere of swirling gases, pressure increases so dramatically that the gases transition into liquid. Deep down, it has a hot, dense core of rock and ice.
