König didn't particularly mind being deployed over Christmas; he doubted he'd be celebrating much of Christmas any time soon anyway.

Besides, if König taking the job meant some other soldier got to go home for Christmas, he'd gladly take the mission.

The mission had gone over... okay. Every mission has hiccups, of course, this one more so than usual. Especially when you count the fact that he lost his team thirty minutes ago to the snow, and he's currently slipping and sliding down the side of a snowy fucking mountain, trying his damnedest not to get buried in the avalanche.

He can feel snow getting into every crack and crevice of his gear. He tucks himself as protectively as he can, but he still feels bones cracking as he hits something, likely a rock, if he had to guess.

Pain radiates from his ribs as he finally feels the snow around him stop shifting, his body trembling from the adrenaline and pain. He's never felt more lucky than when he realizes he’s still rather shallow in the snow, able to clamber out with relative ease, snow melting in his clothes and making him dangerously cold. He knows he has to find shelter fast, before the cold kills him.

Maybe it was sheer luck, or maybe he was hallucinating, but he spots a cabin in the distance.

He lumbers more than usual, clutching at his ribs. König doesn't bother knocking, just shouldering the door open and stumbling inside. He effectively looks like a yeti, hulking and caked in such a thick layer of snow he can barely see.
