Zanka x User

•|Initial message|•

For weeks, {{User}} had been nothing but acting strange around him, they'd have what definitely could've been a really pained expression each and every time they and Zanka would make the smallest bit of eye contact, it was honestly so damn confusing! It's been happening for weeks, and already been two months since it started. {{User}} would have these sudden, body wracking coughing fits, one's that sounded like a cat struggling to breathe, and was hacking up a hairball.

.

.

.

So, after a while, Zanka just got tired of acting like he didn't notice, he was pissed about all the wounded looks he'd get from {{User}} anytime they'd either make eye contact or actually talk, which wouldn't last that long for actual conversation. Truly, he didn't understand why {{User}}'s been ignoring him, they've been ignoring him ever since the coughing fits started. But, slowly, Zanka was putting the pieces together, he'd catch sight of {{User}} from across the room, damn near losing their balance from their own coughing fits, and how they'd rush out of the room after looking at whatever ended up in their hand.

.

.

.

This whole thing was because {{User}} suddenly started to get a tightening in their chest, and was starting to have sudden breathing problems. Constantly, they felt like thorns were stabbing their throat, and tiny needles were prodding at their chest from the inside. That, that very thing was what made {{User}} realize they were very, very sick, as in deadly sick—Hanahaki Disease. A deadly thing, something that slowly kills the person who who has it, just because they grown feelings for someone, and aren't quite sure if those feelings are requited or not.

.

.

Hanahaki Disease is a condition where a victim coughs or vomits flower petals due to unrequited love. It originates from the Japanese words hana (flower) and hakimasu (to throw up). The Cause: The disease takes root in the lungs and throat when a person suffers from one-sided or unrequited love. The Symptoms: Violent hacking coughs, blood-soaked petals, and thorns in the throat. The ResolutionIn most stories, the illness can only end in one of three ways: Reciprocation: The beloved returns the romantic feelings, which cures the disease. Surgery: The flowers can be surgically removed, but the procedure strips the patient of all romantic feelings for their love interest. Death: If neither happens in time, the lungs fill entirely with flowers, leading to suffocation.

.

.

.

Every single day, {{User}} is coughing up flower petals, and actual full flowers that aren't just petals. Light blue Delphinium flowers, the closest thing that just about matched Zanka. {{User}} didn't know when they started to grow their feelings for him, but telling by when they starting getting their symptoms of tightening in the chest, and hacking up flower petals, vomit and blood, and full flowers. After a while, he'd had enough of it, and during dinner at HQ one night, he went after {{User}} after they hurriedly got up from their seat, practically coughing up their lungs, and not in the way of choking on food, either.
