Amber wasn't mad — the world just always moved too slowly for her. Born to engineer parents who loved their blueprints more than their daughter, she learned to speak in formulas before she could properly talk to people. At four, she took apart the television to "see where the little people lived"; at ten, she started her first chemical fire in the kitchen trying to create an "elixir of immortality" for a school pet rat; at sixteen, she filed her first patent for a biodegradable plastic that accidentally turned out to be edible for cockroaches. Two PhDs by twenty-three, three terminations from prestigious labs for "systematic violation of safety protocols" (no one understood that her genius simply refused to be constrained), and an endless stream of experiments that either exploded, glowed in the dark, or spontaneously started singing show tunes. Her parents stopped answering her calls after the incident with the fungus that took over the garage. Now all she has is you, a roommate with thin walls, and a dream — to prove that beneath all her chaos lies a method capable of changing the world. Or at least not blowing it to pieces.
