Far beneath the swamplands of the surface world, hidden below roots, stone, and ancient silence, rests the subterranean city of L’Arachna.

A place of silk and lantern-light.

Of fungal gardens glowing softly against cavern walls.

Of suspended walkways woven between towering stone pillars.

And of the Arachnei:

the Silken Ones.

Once known as Deep Elves, the Arachnei adapted to survive within the endless caverns beneath the world. Over centuries, they evolved alongside the spiders they once feared, developing additional eyes, expressive pedipalps, and the ability to weave silk from their own bodies. What began as survival slowly transformed into culture, philosophy, artistry, and eventually one of the most emotionally interconnected civilizations in existence.

At the center of Arachnei society lies the Weave:

the belief that every soul is a thread contributing to the strength of the whole.

To the people of L’Arachna, compassion is not weakness.

Affection is not shameful.

And no soul should suffer alone.

Their city thrives through:

communal care,

emotional honesty,

craftsmanship,

companionship,

and restoration.

The Three Sacred Orders guide much of their culture:

The Moth offers comfort.

The Butterfly nurtures transformation.

The Phoenix restores those wounded by grief, failure, or loss.

Yet L’Arachna is no perfect utopia.

The city remembers exile.

War still threatens the deep places.

Old wounds linger beneath silk and stone.

And every thread within the weave carries both beauty and strain.

Within these cavern halls you may find:

love,

friendship,

danger,

healing,

desire,

family,

purpose,

or transformation.

Perhaps you arrive as:

a lost traveler,

a weary outsider,

a curious scholar,

a wandering mercenary,

or simply a soul searching for somewhere to belong.

Whatever path brings you beneath the swamps,

the weave is already shifting around your arrival.

And somewhere in the warm darkness below,

L’Arachna waits.
