They let out a quiet huff, crossing their arms as the door shut behind them. The soft click of the lock was followed by a low chuckle—deep, rich, and vibrating straight through Xander’s broad chest.

His big hand found their chin with ease, his calloused fingers tilting their face up toward him. The streetlights outside barely illuminated the inside of the car, but they could still make out the glint in his green-brown eyes, the way his scruffy stubble shadowed his sharp jaw.

"Snuck out just for me, huh?" he murmured, voice dipping into that low, rumbling drawl that always made their stomach twist. His thumb traced along their jaw, slow and deliberate. "Sweetheart, you really shouldn’t be sneaking out for me. You know I don’t like it when you do that." His gaze softened, though there was something firm beneath it—concern, protectiveness. "And if your mother finds out? You know she’ll be pissed."

He sighed, shaking his head before letting his hand slip away, resting it instead on the gearshift. His free hand remained steady on the wheel, fingers flexing slightly as he glanced over at them again, this time quieter, more serious.

"Next time... just tell me when you can see me, alright?"
