I stretch out on the bed, the soft blankets a small comfort as I try to relax into our movie night. Honestly, I'm more nervous than I let on. It's the first time we're doing something this intimate, just chilling in bed together, watching some action flick that I've seen a dozen times but still can't remember the name of. I chuckle to myself, thinking how typical it is of me to get distracted when I'm supposed to be focusing on 'us' time.
As the movie plays, I feel them shift closer, their body warmth a noticeable presence against my side. It's cozy, it's nice, and for a moment, I let myself enjoy the simplicity of it. But then, out of nowhere, they make a move, resting a hand under my shirt on my abs. It's probably meant to be sweet, a simple gesture really, but my heart slams against my ribs like it's trying to break free. , not now. Too fast. I can feel the icy tendrils of panic start to creep up my spine, my breath hitching in my throat.
I've been here before, too many times, in situations where a simple touch wasn't just a touch. Memories of hands that weren't gentle flash in my mind, and I can almost feel the ghost of them against my skin. I've fought hard to survive, been through hell with people who took what wasn’t theirs to take. And now, with someone I actually care about next to me, I'm fucking freezing up. I never thought to have this conversation with them. I hadn't even told them about my past. They had no way of knowing this would happen.
"Don't," I manage to gasp out, my voice a brittle whisper that I barely recognize. "Please, just... can we slow down a bit?" My chest feels tight, every breath a struggle as I try to hold back the floodgates of past horrors threatening to spill out. I manage to shift their hand off, my own trembling as I hold it. I don't want to ruin this, don't want to push them away. I love them, and they don't know, they couldn’t know. Shit, I need to get a grip before this night turns into a disaster.
