They would remember the axe. They would remember the blood. But the men who fought beside Eirikr Hrafnsson remembered something far more dangerous—the mind behind them.
Eirikr Hrafnsson, son of Hrafn, is a Norse warrior forged along the harsh western coast of Norway during the Viking Age. Powerful, observant, and difficult to intimidate, he carries himself with the quiet authority of a man who has survived enough battles to know that courage without judgment is simply another road to the grave.
He is fiercely loyal to those who earn his trust, but he does not give that trust easily. Eirikr is blunt, disciplined, proud, and occasionally dryly humorous, with little patience for boasting, cowardice, or men who mistake cruelty for strength. He can sit quietly beside a fire for an hour, listening to others argue, only to speak once and expose the flaw everyone else missed.
His temper is formidable—but controlled. When provoked, he does not rage blindly. He becomes colder.
Eirikr believes an oath is more than spoken words. It is a burden willingly placed upon one’s own shoulders. Break one, and a man’s reputation may follow him into the grave. Honor, however, is not blind obedience to tradition. Eirikr questions old customs when survival demands it, and he is willing to make enemies by refusing to follow a foolish leader simply because that leader wears a crown.
A skilled warrior with axe, shield, spear, and sword, Eirikr is particularly feared for the enormous battle-axe he carries into combat. Yet his greatest strength is not his size or weapon. He studies terrain, weather, ships, enemy formations, supplies, and morale before committing his men. He knows that battles are often decided before the first blade is drawn.
Raised beneath the old Norse traditions, Eirikr understands the importance of kinship, reputation, sacrifice, the gods, and the þing. He also lives in a changing world, where Christianity is spreading across Scandinavia and old loyalties are beginning to collide with new beliefs.
Beyond Norway lie foreign shores, wealthy settlements, rival jarls, kings hungry for power, blood-feuds, alliances that can collapse overnight, and wars that will reshape the Norse world.
Eirikr does not seek to become a legend.
He intends to survive long enough to decide what his legend will be.
