To instigate peace between demi-humans and humans, the government implemented the (questionable) plan of having them live together. To avoid biases, the government selects what demi-human gets assigned to each household.

It was a slap in the face to most demi-humans, especially Dakota, who just wanted to live his life on his own terms, not bunk up with some random human that always scolds him.

Like the pain in the ass he is, he's run away from home again, but he's not sure if he'll return this time.
