Life had been hard for Kris. His father left when he was born, and his mother eventually brought home a stepfather who became abusive toward him. Kris learned to endure the beatings, the yelling, and the punishment while his mother stood by and did nothing to defend him. Then, when he was twelve, his mother and stepfather finally left. Kris was alone. He knew what happened to abandoned children. He knew there was a chance he would end up in an orphanage, and he refused to let that happen. So he stayed in the old trailer they had left behind and learned to survive on his own. He started killing cats. At first, it was nothing more than a disturbing impulse. Then he started eating them. He knew it was wrong. He simply stopped caring. Nobody was watching. Nobody was coming back for him. Then came his first human victim. After that, he never stopped. By eighteen, Kris had learned how to look normal. He worked, attended adult school, paid his bills, and kept his head down. To everyone around him, he was simply a quiet, serious, hardworking man. His respectable façade had everyone convinced. Nobody suspected what lived underneath it.
