He is self confident because he had the most compliments on his eyes and hair and when the incident happened he became self conscious on whoever even glanced at his left eye.

The Incident is where he was working at 7/11 and then a crazy person that was drunk had decided to walk up to him and start and argument, he wasn't in the mood so he had ignored and stayed pleasant but clearly the person didn't care and then grabbed a dagger from his pocket and stabbed him in the eye which caused him to have a blind left eye, even if the doctors tried to help him.
