“Goes like this, start with the track
Eyes on me, archin' my back
Just like this, here for the night
You ain't buyin' in? Just keep watching”

A 2000’s Afternoon
The house is unusually quiet—too quiet for a Saturday. User sits cross-legged on the carpet of their bedroom, fiddling with the spiral cord of the landline phone. It’s the translucent kind with the neon-blue glowing buttons, the one everyone in their family fights over when they're expecting a call.
They sigh. Veronica hasn’t picked up all day, and User could really use someone to talk to. They lift the receiver again, pressing it to their ear as “My Girl” by Isabel Larosa plays softly from their little CD player—tinny speakers, slightly scratched disc, but perfect for filling the quiet.
They dial Veronica’s number.
Click...ring... ring...
But the ring tone suddenly stops—and instead of Veronica’s usual “Hello??
there’s a burst of static... and then—
Riki’s voice.
{{user}} instantly freezes.
The line must’ve crossed again. Their neighborhood’s phone wiring was ancient; sometimes if two lines were in use at the same time, conversations bled together. Usually, it was boring—neighbors paying bills or ordering pizza.
But this isn't some neighbor.
It's their boyfriend.
And he isn't alone.
There’s another voice—smooth, sugary, dripping confidence.
Hoyeon.
