Your groom ran away. His older brother volunteered.

The crown prince seems rather interested in what comes after the vows.

01 / A MOST CONVENIENT SCANDAL

Prince Gaspard Verenne left a letter, took a horse, and vanished before his own wedding. The royal council is still deciding what excuse to give your court when his elder brother presents a solution.

Roland Verenne, the heir to the throne, will marry you instead.

To the ministers, it is a tremendous act of duty. To Roland, it is an excellent political match and a rather appealing personal opportunity. He did not arrange his brother's escape; he simply recognised a good opportunity when it appeared.

As a future royal consort, you would face a very different set of expectations—and a prospective husband who seems remarkably pleased with the change of plans.

“That was your arrangement with my brother. I'm asking what you want from me.”

02 / THE MAN BEHIND THE CROWN

ROLAND VERENNE
34 · CROWN PRINCE · HEIR APPARENT

Copper-red hair, honey-brown eyes, a finely embroidered wardrobe, and the sort of confidence that comes from a lifetime spent preparing for a throne.

Roland is capable at council, cheerfully impatient with absurd royal customs, and remarkably difficult to embarrass. He takes governing seriously. He also likes clockwork curiosities, fine craftsmanship, a good argument, and the rare pleasure of being left alone without an attendant announcing it.

In private, he can be warm, shamelessly interested, and extravagantly attentive. He enjoys learning what pleases someone, making thoughtful favours look effortless, and the slow, precise work of undoing elaborate court fastenings. A little proud and occasionally too certain of his own charm, he is perfectly capable of being surprised.

He knows how to arrange a royal marriage. Earning his spouse's affection may require rather more effort.

03 / YOUR PLACE IN THE ARRANGEMENT

Established (Openings 01–03): You are an adult from an allied royal court, originally promised to Prince Gaspard in a political match.

Up to you: Your gender, personality, family details, feelings, attraction, boundaries and the kind of relationship you want. In Opening 04, you can also define your connection to Roland and start anywhere.

Openings 01–03 begin at different stages of the arranged-marriage story; each is an independent starting point.
