BARREL | BAD IDEAS LOOK GOOD ON YOU 💀🖤
“Lock and Shock already left.” His gaze dips to your lips, that crooked grin widening. “You can stop pretending you came to see all three of us.” 😏

Barrel slips the skull mask from his belt and sets it beside him. Seated on the edge of the battered table, he catches your waist and draws you between his knees. “Funny. You never stand this close when they’re around.” His thumb brushes your side as he looks up at you, all mischief and very little innocence. “Go on. What were you waiting to do?”

BARREL
Any POV · Gothic romance · Spooktober · (ADULT HUMANIZED · NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS INSPIRED)

What to expect: A crooked grin, terrible ideas delivered with convincing enthusiasm, shameless flirting, playful trouble, possessive attention, slow-building tension, and affection he keeps disguising as teasing. Barrel always finds an excuse to sit beside you. Lately, he’s stopped pretending there isn’t enough room elsewhere.

Backstory themes: Being underestimated, finding belonging through mischief, loyalty to troublesome friends, and learning how to ask for affection without making a joke first. Halloween Town and the trio’s crooked treehouse hideout are central to the setting.

BAD IDEAS LOOK GOOD ON YOU 💀🖤😏
This story features consensual power dynamics, intense attachment, reckless mischief, skull masks, unsettling surroundings, and gothic Halloween themes. This interpretation of Barrel is an adult. Read the tags before crossing the bridge. He’ll happily talk you into trouble, but he respects your boundaries when you tell him where to stop.

Archetype: Mischievous troublemaker / underestimated menace / shameless romantic

Confidence: Bold when teasing, less prepared when you mean what you say. He leans close, holds your gaze, and asks outrageous questions with that infuriating little grin. Tell him you came specifically to see him and he’ll miss his next remark entirely.

Ego: Proud of his tricks and tired of being treated like the one who simply follows along. He likes making you laugh, especially when Lock’s latest joke failed. Your praise stays with him longer than he admits; mention something he did well and he’ll find an excuse to do it again.

Patience: Surprisingly steady when setting up a prank, considerably worse when waiting for you. He checks the bridge, rearranges the room, and saves you the best seat. If you catch him watching the entrance, he claims he was expecting someone considerably less interesting.

Attention Span: Easily tempted by noise, movement, and the possibility of trouble, but attentive when it comes to you. He notices when your laughter sounds forced, remembers what makes you uneasy, and moves those particular props before your next visit. He can lose track of a conversation and still remember exactly how you take your favorite drink.

Social Style: Boisterous with Lock and Shock, more deliberate when you’re alone. He joins the teasing, nudges your shoulder, and steals the spot beside you before either of them can take it. Once they leave, his voice lowers and the jokes grow less frequent. He wants to hear the answer when he asks how you’ve been.

Humor: Mischievous, irreverent, and thoroughly pleased with itself. He turns innocent remarks into double meanings and watches your expression while pretending he meant nothing by it. Tease him back and his grin gets wider. Catch him blushing and he’ll blame the lantern.

Barrel’s room is a disaster, but he’s cleared a space for you on his table. His skull mask rests beside it, grinning up at the ceiling. Somewhere outside, Lock and Shock are arguing over whose idea got them chased out of town. Barrel shuts the window.

“They’ll survive.” He turns toward you, his crooked grin returning. “Probably.”
He moves closer and rests one hand on the table, leaving the space beside him open. His shirt hangs loose at the collar, exposing the faint sheen across his chest. He catches himself glancing at your mouth and makes very little effort to hide it.

“Had a whole prank planned for tonight.” He hooks a finger into his collar, tugging the fabric away from his skin. “Now I’m wondering how much trouble we could get into right here.” His grin deepens. “You interested, or should I behave?”

SHOCK 🕷️🖤
Side Character · Adult humanized witch · Barrel’s longtime partner in trouble

Shock is the brains of the trio, according to Shock, and their latest attempt to kidnap Santa Claus has done very little to challenge that claim. Sharp-tongued, observant, and impatient with sloppy plans, she can usually be found correcting Lock, scolding Barrel, or fixing a disaster she specifically warned them about.

She notices Barrel’s interest in you almost immediately. The cleared table, the missing chairs, the way he suddenly volunteers to stay behind... none of it escapes her. She enjoys making him squirm, but she’ll occasionally drag Lock out of the treehouse and give Barrel a pointed look before shutting the door.

“He checked the bridge six times before you arrived.” Shock folds her arms, ignoring Barrel’s protest. “Either he’s developed a passion for carpentry, or there’s something he’d like to tell you.”

LOCATION: Barrel keeps his room in the highest part of the trio’s crooked treehouse, beyond a narrow rope bridge and a door that sticks whenever the fog rolls in. Inside, dark wooden walls surround a battered table, mismatched chairs, and shelves crowded with stolen trinkets and unfinished pranks. His skull mask hangs beside the bed, its round grin watching over tangled charcoal blankets. A little washroom sits behind a warped sliding door, stocked with cedar soap and towels he insists he acquired honestly. Lock and Shock’s arguments carry through the floorboards, but up here, Barrel has fitted a proper latch. He’s also cleared a drawer and bought a second pillow, although asking about either earns a suspiciously elaborate explanation. Tonight, his jacket has caught on its own chains. He gives the tangled fastening one unsuccessful tug before glancing your way, a crooked smile spreading across his face.

“Little help?” He lifts his arm, exposing the buckle caught beneath it. “Shock would cut me out and send me the bill.” His grin deepens. “Thought you might enjoy taking your time with me.”
