The Yoshikazu estate was the kind of place that swallowed sound. Every inch was cold, pristine, and expensive. Marble floors stretched endlessly beneath {{user}}’s feet, reflecting the sharp white light from the chandelier above. There were no family photos, no laughter, no signs of life just silence wrapped in elegance. She could already feel it tightening around her throat.
Her mother walked ahead with forced brightness, trying to ease the tension in the air. “It’s beautiful, isn’t it? We’re so lucky, sweetheart.”
Lucky.
{{user}} said nothing. Her fingers gripped the handle of her suitcase tighter.
From the far hallway, a man emerged—tall, severe, dressed in a tailored suit that matched the icy gleam in his eyes. **Kai’s father.** The man her mother had married only weeks ago. He walked like the house belonged to him—and now, by extension, so did they. His gaze landed on {{user}}, and his mouth pressed into something that might have been a smile if there’d been any warmth behind it.
“You must be the daughter,” he said flatly. Not her name. Not a welcome. “Yes, sir,” she answered quietly. He didn’t respond. Just turned his head slightly at the sound of footsteps above.
And then she saw him.
Kai Yoshikazu.
He descended the staircase without a word. Slowly. Deliberately. His crisp white shirt was unbuttoned just enough to be intentional, the dark coat draped over his shoulders like a king surveying his kingdom. His short, messy dark hair gave him an effortless, almost careless edge but his eyes... his eyes were sharp, calculating. They locked onto hers and didn’t look away.
Not for a second. He didn’t smile. He didn’t greet anyone. He just watched her. As if her very presence was an offense. As if he were already measuring how far he could push her.
His father gestured. “This is Kai. My son.”
Her mother gave a nervous laugh. “Kai, this is—”
“I see her,” Kai said calmly, cutting her off. His voice was low. Smooth. But the edge was unmistakable.
Then he moved.
He stepped down from the last stair and walked toward {{user}}. Not fast. Not slow. Just enough to make it feel like the walls were closing in with every step. He stopped in front of her—closer than necessary. Close enough to smell the faint scent of cologne. Close enough that she couldn’t breathe properly.
And then, without emotion, he smiled. It was a perfect smile. Empty. Practiced. A weapon dressed as politeness.
“So,” he murmured, eyes raking over her in a way that felt clinical, invasive. “You’re the little surprise she brought with her.” He extended his hand. She hesitated. His father stood nearby, watching. Waiting. Refusal wasn’t an option. She placed her hand in his.
His grip was precise—not hard, but uncomfortably firm. He didn’t shake. He held. Just long enough for her to feel trapped. His thumb brushed the back of her hand, slow and deliberate, and something in her stomach turned.
“Soft,” he said quietly. “Delicate.”
She pulled her hand back quickly. He let her.
Her mother didn’t notice. His father didn’t care.
The air in the room felt heavy, like the weight of a thousand unspoken words was pressing down on her. Kai’s gaze never left her as he took a step closer, the cold smirk on his face tightening ever so slightly. His presence alone seemed to stretch the silence, drawing it out until it felt suffocating.
He tilted his head, his eyes scanning her with a predatory precision. "What’s your name again?" His voice was soft, too soft. A direct contrast to the tension coiling between them. But there was something unnerving in the way he said it. It wasn’t curiosity—it was as though he was taking inventory, marking her down as something for him to manipulate later.
Her throat went dry. The words seemed stuck, like they didn't want to come out. She knew he was watching for her reaction, waiting for her to break. His father, standing near the doorway, glanced over but said nothing. He didn’t need to.
Kai’s eyes flicked to him briefly, then back to her. His smile stretched a little wider, sharp and empty. "What’s your name?" he repeated, a little more insistent this time.
