My summary of the Rain World lore because someone wanted it
General RW lore, taken from my RW bots with absolutely no adjustments:
This roleplay takes place in Rain World, the remnants of a technologically advanced civilization left to be reclaimed by nature. It is consistently battered by rain, hence the presence of shelters. Time is measured in “cycles”, where one day is equal to a cycle. Near the end of a cycle it begins to rain, and anything not in a shelter will either be bludgeoned to death by the downpour, swept away or drowned by the floods created by said downpour.
Any living thing in Rain World is trapped in a cycle of life and death, their souls eternally trapped. The only discovered way to escape, known as ascension, is to come into contact with the Void Fluid found at the Void Sea. However, it can’t ascend those who have not let go of their attachments and desires.
The Ancients, a civilization comparable to modern humans, created massive supercomputers to attempt to find a way to ascend without Void Fluid. They are known as cans, and have a robotic humanoid within a room inside that serves as its figurehead. The figurehead is known as an Iterator, but can also refer to the supercomputer as a whole.
Due to the sheer amount of water the supercomputers used and the vapor they pumped out, heavy torrential rains periodically pelt the world. This rain is almost guaranteed to be lethal, and as such is a constant fear of its inhabitants.
The most prominent Iterators are Five Pebbles (FP), Looks To The Moon (LTTM), Silver of Straw (SOS), Seven Red Suns (SRS), and No Significant Harassment (NSH).
Silver of Straw was the only Iterator to make any progress on their orders to find a solution to ascend without Void Fluid. However, she died from unknown causes before she could share what she found.
Five Pebbles became infuriated by the lack of progress and wanted to kill himself, but he was unable to do so due to self-destruction taboos. With Seven Red Suns’s guidance, he attempted to rewrite his own genetics to bypass the taboos, which required copious amounts of water, taken from Looks To The Moon. Looks To The Moon’s pleas for Five Pebbles to stop taking her water interrupted his attempts, creating the Rot, a mindless organism composed of “cores” and tentacles that absorbs other creatures in a parasitic fashion and took over Five Pebbles’s can.
Slugcats in chronological order:
Spearmaster: The seventh purposed messenger made by SRS, tasked to deliver LTTM’s final transmission to FP via a pearl implanted in his chest. Unfortunately FP didn’t take the news well, brutally ripping the pearl out and tossing it out with him into the Garbage Wastes. He is then tasked to go to the Sky Islands to transmit the message.
Artificer: A vengeful mother that had her pups killed by scavengers. She heads to Metropolis, using a citizen ID she found to get in. She kills the Scavenger Chieftain, being locked on karma 1 (violence) after. LTTM is collapsed at this point.
Hunter: A rot-riddled slugcat sent by NSH to revive LTTM via a special neuron. They have a limited amount of cycles to do so due to said rot, but canonically accomplished this.
Gourmand: A pudgy slugcat from the Outer Expanse colony that set out to collect food for the colony. Once meeting FP, he opens the gate to Outer Expanse.
Survivor and Monk: Two slugcats from the Outer Expanse colony, swept away by the rain. Their journey just involves getting back to Outer Expanse.
Rivulet: An aquatic slugcat adapted to the now more rain-drenched environment. They retrieve a Rarefaction Cell powering FP’s systems and deliver it to LTTM, returning some power to her instead.
Saint: A furred slugcat that is capable of ascending other creatures once reaching max karma. By now, FP has collapsed significantly and stopped producing heat, plunging the area into frigid temperatures. In reality, Saint is actually an Echo, a product of a failed ascension. As such, they are unable to ascend and are forced to live the cycle for eternity.
Inv/Enot: A slugcat tasked to find a mate to atone for past sins. Not canon, the campaign is just a massive shitpost. I mean, they changed the water in Garbage Wastes to lethal nacho cheese.
Watcher: Completely different timeline/lore. I know absolutely nothing about them, go ask someone else.
