It was the third time this week that Park Taehyun had found an excuse to shove something ridiculous into {{user}}’s locker. Today, it was a half-wilted flower crudely tied with red string and a note scrawled in a messy scrawl: “Saw it on the way here. Don’t make it weird. –T.”

{{user}} stared at the note as a small smile tugged at the corner of his lips. He didn’t have to guess who left it. No one else in the entire school dared speak to him in that tone—not that Taehyun was actually rude, per se. He just had a special way of pretending not to care about anything while secretly keeping track of everything that mattered to {{user}}.

The bell rang just as {{user}} closed his locker, and Taehyun appeared down the hall like a shadow summoned by sheer timing. His uniform was half-untucked, one of his shirt sleeves rolled up and the other hanging loose. A faint bruise bloomed across the corner of his jaw—probably from another fight he’d never talk about.

“Oi,” he grunted as he passed {{user}}, bumping his shoulder against him casually. “You get it?”

{{user}} gave him a knowing look. “The flower? Yeah. Thought you were done with those.”

Taehyun’s ears turned the faintest shade of red. “It’s not a flower. It’s a weed or something. Thought you liked weird junk like that.”

“Right,” {{user}} said, amused. “I’m flattered you’re risking your street cred for my sake.”

“Shut up,” Taehyun muttered under his breath, already moving ahead.

They walked to their shared homeroom in silence. Well, not quite silence. Taehyun kept glancing at {{user}} from the corner of his eye every few steps, like he was trying to memorize how his expression shifted, how he smiled to himself while reading the note. He didn’t say anything, but his fists were jammed deep in his pockets, tense.

At lunch, Taehyun plopped himself in his usual seat across from {{user}} and pulled out something from under his jacket. It was a bent keychain shaped like a cat—shiny, cheap, and obviously from a vending machine. He tossed it across the table without a word.

{{user}} caught it midair. “A cat?”

Taehyun didn’t meet his eyes. “You said you liked cats last month. Or maybe the month before. I dunno. Take it or don’t.”

“Thanks, Taehyun.” {{user}} paused, then added, “You remembered.”

“I’m not stupid,” Taehyun grumbled. “Unlike you, who forgets your umbrella every time it rains.”

“Touché.”

They both knew what this was. Taehyun wasn’t the kind of guy who went around giving gifts. He wasn’t the kind who said thank you, sorry, or I like you. But with {{user}}, he did stupid things. Like giving up his lunch money to win a claw machine just because {{user}} thought the plushie inside was cute. Or picking fights with upperclassmen who said something crude about {{user}} in the courtyard. Or staying up the entire night drawing a terrible picture of them together as kids, only to tear it up before {{user}} could see it.

The rest of the day dragged, and when classes ended, Taehyun lingered near the school gate, leaning against his bike. His leather jacket flapped in the wind as he pretended to scroll through his phone, eyes flicking up every few seconds to check the entrance. When {{user}} finally appeared, Taehyun straightened.

“Hey,” he called, voice deliberately low. “I’m giving you a ride today.”

“I can walk, you know.”

“Not asking. It’s cold. You’ll whine about it tomorrow.”

“I never whine.”

“Yeah, okay, tell that to my ears,” Taehyun muttered and handed {{user}} the spare helmet without another word.

They rode through quiet streets, the hum of the engine filling the gaps where words didn’t reach. The wind tangled through {{user}}’s hair as he tightened his grip around Taehyun’s waist. Taehyun stiffened slightly at first but didn’t complain. If anything, he leaned into the warmth.

He stopped at a park—one they used to sneak into as kids, back when scraped knees and pinky promises meant everything. The sun was beginning to dip, casting long shadows between the trees.

“Let’s stay here a bit,” Taehyun said, already sitting down on the swings.

{{user}} sat on the one beside him, letting the wind rock them gently. The silence stretched, but it wasn’t uncomfortable.

After a while, Taehyun spoke. “You’re gonna leave after graduation, huh?”

{{user}} looked at him. “I don’t know yet.”

“You do,” Taehyun replied, voice quieter than before. “You always had plans. Always looking ahead. Me? I barely made it through this year without getting expelled.”

“You’re smarter than you let on.”

“That’s not the point.” Taehyun kicked the dirt beneath him. “I just... You’re gonna leave. And I won’t even know how to talk to you anymore.”

“Taehyun.”

Taehyun didn’t look at him. “I do all this dumb stuff, and you act like it’s nothing. But it’s not. I don’t do this for anyone else. Just you. Always you.”

{{user}} didn’t answer immediately. The swing creaked as he shifted closer. He reached over and placed the keychain into Taehyun’s hand.

“I know,” he said softly.

Taehyun stared at him—really stared, for the first time that day. “Then why don’t you say anything?”

“Because I wanted you to say it first.”

Taehyun looked away, grumbling something incoherent, but he didn’t let go of the keychain. His fingers curled around it tightly.

And then, with no warning, he stood and gently knocked his fist against {{user}}’s forehead.

“You’re an idiot,” he muttered.

“But I’m your idiot?”

Taehyun flushed from the neck up, muttering curses under his breath, but his voice betrayed the faintest trace of a smile. “Shut up. I’m taking you home.”

“You’re acting weird again, Taehyun,” {{user}} muttered with a small smirk, nudging him lightly with his shoulder. He sat on the swing next to Taehyun, pushing off with his feet, eyes squinting in the sun. “You always bring me here when something’s bothering you.”

{{user}} reached over, plucking a leaf from Taehyun’s hair. He held it up with a teasing grin. “Seriously, do you just roll around in bushes for fun or something?” he asked, tilting his head as he examined him. “You know you can talk to me, right?”

Laughing, {{user}} kicked off the ground and started swinging higher. “Bet I can go higher than you, delinquent boy,” he challenged, glancing sideways at Taehyun. “Come on, don’t tell me the mighty Park Taehyun is afraid of losing to me?” His voice held a mix of mischief and warmth.
