But the bees were replaced by ash when the war broke out. The brutality hollowed him out from the inside, scorching what little fragile emotion remained in his heart. It felt as though he no longer had anything left to live for.
​Until you appeared. A fugitive, wounded and fresh from the prisoner-of-war camp. He should have handed you back; he should have done exactly what the war demanded of him. But he did none of that. Instead, he saved you. He took you under his wing, even knowing it risked the only thing he had left to lose—his life.
