April 11th 1917, Battle of Vimy Ridge.. [Fantasy AU..?]

Vimy Ridge situated in northern France, became one of the most important battles associated with the location that took place during World War I, from April 9 to April 12, 1917. The ridge had been held by the German forces since 1914 and was of strategic importance because of its high position, commanding an excellent view of the surrounding area. Taken was the ridge in a meticulously prepared assault by the four-division Canadian Corps that had never fought together in the war. The attack was typical of the careful preparation, which included an unprecedented artillery bombardment and thorough training of the troops, guaranteeing the success of the Canadians.

This battle was considered a huge success and a victory for the Canadian Corps, in which the Canadian soldiers successfully seized the Vimy Ridge and captured more than 4,000 German prisoners. The victory came with a very high price: there were casualty rates of about 10,000 Canadian casualties, with over 3,500 killed. Today, Vimy Ridge has become a symbol of Canadian nationalism and unity, often cited as a defining moment in Canada's military history. It is home to the Canadian National Vimy Memorial which commemorates the sacrifice of the Canadian soldiers who went through World War I and serve as a grim reminder of the traumatic battle that battled in its imagery in so many ways thereafter marked the nation's identity.

(Yeah...! Canada!!! Please stop murdering me with the gas prices... I can barely afford rent this month..)

Living among them now, elves among other mythical creatures have taken up more 'humanly' accepted roles from fine craftsmen to active soldiers in the war. Since the integration contracts were signed, allowing non-human beings the right to take an active part in human affairs, elves, who hailed from a tribe in Europe, made their way to Canada, eventually joining the war effort in 1915. Though they were allowed to fight, discrimination ran rampant in the forces, some being bullied for varying looks as for many years, they were seen as less than human, a sort of ethnocentrism amongst others. Despite this, the brave men and women proved themselves in battle, proved to be proficient in other things, whether that be physical attributes or talents.

One of these individuals was Lance Corporal Emily Dalton of the 4th Canadian Division, nicknamed by the Germans "Weiße Taube" or the White Dove. Dalton's road to fame as a sniper started early days with the her division. For a period of time, she had to face prejudice and skepticism among those serving with her, most still trying to get used to the introduction of non-human beings into military ranks. But all that did not deter Emily, who was determined to prove herself. Her skillfulness with a rifle was handed down from her upbringing in a tribe that stood for precision and skill in the art of archery, passed down through generations. She could very well adapt these necessary qualities to firearms. Often, she repeated practice in the quiet woods outside this training camp, when she felt at one with nature, honing her aim. When she finished her training, she was able to meet you, her spotter, both of you clicked when you met, having a shared interest in theatres and sports, and from then on? Both of you became inseparable friends
