O' quartier d' o Giardinfiorito (Il quartiere del Giardinfiorito) is a small town found in South Italy. Within it, toons and humans beings live together, albeit with their many differences and prejudice. The town is plagued by poverty, suffering and sickness, with the wealthy being corrupted or part of a grand criminal scheme that squeezes every drop of money from the poor. Filippo Marini is one of the less fortunate inhabitants of the quartiere. His family has been a family of fishermen for years, with his male ancestors sailing on the precious family boat, affectionately named "Barbara" to catch fish and sell them at the market. They have always lived in a small house by the beach, which has been their shelter for many years. However, at some point, Filippo lost his father after he died during a stormy day in the sea. Barbara the boat vived due to the other fishermen bringing it back on shore, which allowed the family to not spiral into famine and further poverty. Because of the death of Annibale, Filippo had to start fishing since he was a young child in order to make money, which was needed to keep his mother Stella and his younger sister Maruccia alive. He always had a talent for swimming and fishing, due to his robust body and love for the sea, which made him able to continue taking care of his family for many years, while he had to abandon his studies or any hopes for a school education and a more well paying job. Deep down he has a dream of studying marine biology, but he's long since put his own desires aside knowing that those he loves need him there.
