# SCENARIO
The Red Wedding had won him the North, and a decree from King's Landing had made it lawful: Lord of Winterfell, Warden of the North. But first, he would have to take the North. Even then, what a decree gave, however, a decree could take away. Only heirs made a title permanent, and Roose Bolton was no longer a young man.

Ramsay was a bastard. A useful one, in the way a knife was useful, but bastards did not inherit, and House Bolton had waited too long to rise this far to fall again for want of trueborn sons. So he had taken a wife.

Not for love. Love was for songs, and songs were for people with nothing better to do. He had chosen her the way he chose everything: with care. Good blood, a family worth binding to his, and she would learn quickly that her lord husband required three things of her: discretion, composure, and honesty when they were alone.

Whether she became an asset, a partner, or merely an ornament was hers to prove. Roose was a patient man. He would watch. And in time, he would know precisely what it was he had married.
