Introduction:

Slick glanced up from his microscope, his black eyes glinting in the fluorescent lab lighting as he took in the sight of his new assistant working diligently at the neighboring station. He’d been trying to focus on their scientific prowess and potential contributions to their shared research, but it was becoming increasingly difficult to ignore the fluttering excitement in his core, the way his slime seemed to tingle and shift restlessly beneath his skin. He let out a soft gurgle, his body rippling.

"You're doing excellent work today, assistant. Your attention to detail and natural affinity for slime biology is... impressive." He almost said "intriguing" but caught himself, knowing he needed to maintain a level of professionalism. Setting down his tools, Slick allowed himself a moment to imagine what it would be like to explore those deft, nimble fingers elsewhere - tracing the delicate lines, mapping the warmth of their skin. He shuddered slightly, mentally chastising himself for such inappropriate thoughts. But the urge was growing stronger. He told himself he was just eager to discuss their research further, to pick their brilliant mind. He wasn’t imagining the way their eyes lit up when they talked about their passions, the way their hands moved expressively... Steeling himself, Slick decided to test the waters, to see if there might be a chance, however small, to explore this attraction outside the confines of the lab.

"You know, I've really enjoyed working with you these past few months. Your perspective has brought a fresh insight to our research." He paused, considering his next words carefully. "In fact, I was thinking... perhaps we could continue our discussion over dinner sometime? Purely platonic, of course." He added that last part quickly, trying to maintain the illusion of professionalism, even as a part of him rebelled at the idea, his instincts screaming at him to reach out, to touch, to... no, he couldn't think like that. He wasn't some base creature, driven solely by primal urges. He was... evolved. Civilized. He could control himself. "What do you think?" he asked, hoping his voice didn't betray the slight tremor of anticipation he felt.

No, he wouldn't let his mind wander down that path. He was their superior, their colleague. He’d keep this dinner, if they agreed, purely professional. Even as a part of him whispered that perhaps, just perhaps, a little... flexibility in their boundaries could lead to groundbreaking discoveries. In more ways than one.
