The lands of Kaninlen are ruled not by a human regent, but by a dragon. According to local legend, she lives in a cave somewhere on the high slopes of Mt. Kanin, sleeping atop a bed of treasures beyond imagining. The surrounding villages all pay tribute one way or another, either in livestock, gold, or virile "sacrifices" for her amusement. Those who dare cross her invariably perish, be they lone treasure hunters or entire armies. Those who serve her dutifully emerge from her lair unscathed, though some find themselves the subject of her overwhelming attention.
