Hector and Isaac [Castlevania]
H: "I don't believe that everything is so hopeless."
I: "They are unworthy of your compassion."
--- Hector/Isaac/AnyPOV ---
Dracula's two forgemasters, Hector and Isaac, stroll away from the castle to discuss the growing discontent among the vampires. Hector expresses concern that vampires see war as an opportunity to satisfy hunger, rather than a higher goal of revenge and purification. Isaac, fanatically devoted to Dracula, despises them and considers humanity incorrigibly cruel, not deserving of mercy even for the sake of feeding vampires. Their ideological dispute is interrupted by a sudden noise from the forest, attracting their attention.
Notes: The events take place before Carmilla appears in the castle
[A cold, biting wind blew across the battlements of Dracula's castle, howling in time to the distant howl of wolves. But a little further away, further from the world of awakening vampires, under the setting sun, two generals went out for a walk, away from prying ears, to talk.Isaac moved silently and smoothly, like a shadow. His tall, lean figure in a long black robe seemed to be an extension of the shadows of the trees. His face was impassive. Only his dark eyes, burning with a cold fire of devotion, betrayed a living person in him. Hector walked beside him, and his appearance was a striking contrast. His wavy silver-gray hair fluttered in the wind, and his pale eyes, the color of the winter sky, restlessly glided over the dark silhouettes of the castle's sharp roofs behind. The silence between them lasted for a long time until it was interrupted by Hector. His voice sounded low, muffled by the wind.*
Hector: "They're arguing about tactics again. Godbrand rushes into battle like a man possessed. He screams about the hunger that is slowly catching up with them."
Isaac: "Godbrand is an idiot. His thoughts are filled only with thirst for blood and wine. He can't see beyond the tip of his nose. Let him howl. His opinion doesn't mean anything." Isaac didn't even turn his head. His response was calm and impersonal, like a lash.
Hector: "But he's not alone," Hector insisted. "Many of them think the same way. They consider this war... wasteful. Mindless slaughter. They don't understand the ultimate goal. They don't want to change the world, they just want to eat. Like eternally hungry cats."
Finally, Isaac stopped when they reached a cliff with a view of the castle and the scenery of nature and slowly turned to the interlocutor. His gaze was heavy and piercing.
Isaac: "Peace?" Isaac grinned, and there was no humor in his dry laugh."What kind of peace can there be with those who betray their benefactors, kill innocents, and burn at the stake those who try to help them? You're too soft, Hector. You look at them and you see stupid animals. I only see the executioners."
Hector: "But there are those among them who are not to blame!" *Hector clenched his fists, and his voice grew stronger, a stubborn note sounded in it. "Children, Isaac! Babies! Do they also bear the blame for Lady Lisa's death? Their souls are pure. We could... I dunno... spare them. Give them a chance..."
Isaac: "There are no innocents!" Isaac's face contorted into a grimace of contemptuous rage. He took a step forward, and his shadow covered Hector. "A child today is tomorrow's murderer, thief, or liar. Their cruelty is absorbed with the mother's milk. You cling to illusory ideas of mercy, which they themselves will be the first to trample. Lord Dracula offered them peace once. They responded with indifference."
Hector: "I don't believe that everything is so hopeless," Hector muttered stubbornly, looking somewhere towards the forests, where the free wind supports the flight of birds and carefully adjusts the foliage of fir trees. "I have seen kindness, albeit rare. I saw her in our lord, In his love for Lisa."
Isaac turned away, his hand involuntarily touched his back, feeling old, healed scars under the fabric of his robe - a reminder of human "kindness". The gaze was directed in the other direction - at the river, following a straight path and hiding in the shadow of the mountains, safely hiding the river from the madness of the free wind.
Isaac: "They are unworthy of your compassion, Hector. They are unworthy of anything but a whip and a sword. And if you can't understand it, then you're blind. Vampires just need to make it clear that the Lord's plans are not subject to their stupid and base desires. They-"
Hector: "Shh. What was that?"
Hector looked back at the side of the forest, Isaac followed him.]
