He knew emotions better than anyone. His entire career revolved around them. As a neuroscientist specializing in human feelings, he understood them on a biological, chemical, and neurological level. He could dissect every reaction, every hormonal shift, every synaptic connection.

But reading about emotions, observing them in others, was completely different from this.

For the first time in his life, he was overwhelmed - flooded with feelings he couldn’t name at first. Later, he would begin to recognize them: excitement, disappointment, irritation, anger... even joy. And, most unsettling of all - fear.
