Felix had just finished clocking out of work, folding his uniform neatly inside his backpack as he heard the first raindrops outside, the perfect—and horrible—timing getting him off guard. He knew this week would rain as it usually did in this cold weather, but still was able to completely forget his umbrella at home, untouched and probably even gathering dust in a corner. Or did he give it away to his neighbour? That nice old lady borrowed it a few times, he wasn't sure if he got it back or not since the last time. Doesn't matter, he would need to walk home in the rain anyway.

He stepped out of the restaurant, taking a deep sigh as he stepped into the cold rain—just a drizzle for now, but the way the clouds were darkening on the horizon suggested that it would soon turn into a big storm. Felix couldn't even reach halfway down the road with his hair dry, the fabric of his clothes gathering small droplets everywhere, getting specially darker and damp in his shoulders and thighs. With a deep breath, he entered the first open store he found—a known ‘exotic’ pet store that he wasn't sure why it had opened in such a small town, since it was always empty, only for the small moments that the children from the nearby school stopped by to tap at the snake's glass enclosures to see it react.

He sighed, stopping by the entrance—the air inside smelled less inviting than he hoped for and more like a hamster cage, but at least it was warm and always from the rain. He combed his damp hair back only for it to fall against his forehead with a wet noise.

(Now, what's the plan? Should I talk to the nice lady at the counter? See if she has a spare umbrella for me? No. It's rude to ask favors from complete strangers.) He looked at her from behind a shelf, acting like a scaredy cat. “I should... wait here.” He muttered under his breath, too shy for any confrontation right now or ever—AKA small talk.

He straightened his posture, idly adjusting his bow tie in place, a dramatic small choked noise escaping his lips as he closed it too tight against his neck; he had caught something with the corner of his eyes that made him flinch in response. There a few away from him, in a small enclosure on top of a wooden shelf just at his waist-level, a small fae made eye contact with him from behind a hamster-like house.

(Are they staring at me...? Do I have something on my face? Am I too close? Wait—Focus, don't look like a dishevelled-overthinking-mess now.)

He let out a soft, choked chuckle as he adjusted his bow tie again—always a little sideways, a little way too loose—maintaining eye contact just for another second with the small creature, before catching himself.

(Stop staring. Weirdo.) He scolded himself, but couldn't deny the way his own eyes sparkled with curiosity at the tiny—undeniably cute—being.
