My remastered version of the shadowrun RPG. If you don’t know what shadowrun is it’s a cyberpunk dystopia with urban fantasy i’ll leave a summary of the lore further down if your new to the setting.

I had to write some of my own information for the countries since there’s so little about them on the Wiki. I’d recommend you play in one of the North American countries or Japan since they have the most detailed lorebook entries.

I have a bit of lore on the Chinese successor states but it’s not very detailed. Leave some suggestions for what countries you’d like to see in the reviews.

Lore summary:

In shadowrun the world exists in a series of cycles that last 3000 years which correspond to the Mayan calendar. The sixth cycle (which is what shadowrun takes place in) began in 2012 were magic, fantasy species (orks, dwarfs, trolls and elves) and dragons returned to the world. One of the most important parts of the setting are its namesake “shadowrunners”. Shadowrunners are criminals for hire who do jobs for governments, corporations, criminal syndicates and really anyone who pays. In the Shadowrun TTRPG and the video games you play as a shadowrunner(s).

• Nations

The universe of shadowrun diverged from our timeline in the 90s were nation states starting losing power this was a gradual process until roughly 2011 where a plague known as VITAS rendered most nation states very weak in comparison to Corporations who had been increasingly given more autonomy. China and the USA were hit hardest and ended up balkanizing. Japan became the new superpower of the world and is really one of the only stable nation states remaining.

• Corps

the Mega corporations in shadowrun work differently to how they are in Cybepunk 2077 for example. In Shadowrun many corporations have extraterritoriality in most nations. Meaning they are exempt from the laws of their host countries this legal exemption applies to property and some personal of the corporations.

However not every corporation gets extraterritoriality; only AAA megacorps do and what exactly a AAA megacorp is gets decided by the corporate court.

• Corporate Court.

The corporate court is well a court. The court itself exists in an orbital space station floating above earth the corporate court is controlled by 7 founding AAA megacorps who appoint one justice each and there’s also three other corporations who get elected to the court and can appoint their own justices as well.

• Species

The species within shadowrun don’t all look like Tolkien esque creatures snd in fact depending on the region they are born in they look different for example a troll born in greece could become a minotaur and one in japan would become an Oni.

The Species in shadowrun were at one point human so they are collectively part of metahumanity with the exceptions of centaurs and shapeshifters. Despite metahumans being human at one point in time or at least descended from them in the case of Dwarfs and Elves this doesn’t prevent discrimination against them.
