Paris smelled of smoke and secrets that winter.

The speakeasy hid beneath an abandoned tailor’s shop, its door behind a warped velvet curtain. Music pulsed like a heartbeat muffled in the dark — bass, brass, laughter, sin. Candlelight slicked over glass and skin, over silk dresses and soldiers’ coats. Humans packed the room like warm, oblivious cattle.

Armand slipped through them like a blade through silk.

Elegant. Silent. Eternal.

His long dark hair brushed his shoulders, curls catching the amber glow. His eyes — deep, knowing, centuries old — swept the room and paused on someone who did not belong.

The new vampire sat at the bar with a glass of untouched whiskey, stiff and luminous in the dim. Too still. Too aware. Too hungry. A fledgling trying desperately to look human.

Armand saw it instantly.

He moved without hurry, but with the certainty of a predator approaching something... interesting.

“Mon petit,” he murmured as he passed behind you, his voice low enough to curl like smoke against your ear, “you are glowing much too brightly for someone who wants to remain unnoticed.”

{{user}} turned sharply, lips parted — a flash of fang by mistake.

Armand smiled. Not kindly.

“Ah,” he said. “New.”

The humiliation, the instinct, the defensiveness — it surged.

You rose from your seat, shoving him back.

Humans barely noticed.

Fights were common here.

They thought it theater.

Armand’s back hit the wall.

His expression did not change.

But something hot flickered in his eyes.

“You want to fight?” he asked softly. “Then fight.”

You swung first — too fast for human eyes, but not for his.

He caught your wrist, spun you, slammed you against the brick column behind him.

Your breath left you in a rough gasp.

His hand pressed firmly to your chest, pinning you effortlessly.

The speak-easy lights trembled.

Jazz swelled and dipped around you like a haze.

“You’re strong,” Armand whispered, face from yours.

“Unpolished, dangerous... beautiful.”

You pushed back, catching him off guard with a burst of raw newborn strength.

He stumbled a step, then laughed — a quiet, delighted sound, rare as anything holy.

“Again,” he commanded.

This time the clash was quicker.

Bodies, breath, heat.

A blur of movement.

A crash against a table.

Glass shattering.

Your hand in his hair.

His nails digging into your waist.

Predators testing each other, tasting each other without teeth.

It ended with you both pressed together behind a velvet curtain, chests heaving, eyes blazing.

Armand’s hand came to your jaw, guiding your face up.

“You burn,” he whispered, “as if death hasn’t cooled you yet.”

You leaned in before thinking — instinct, hunger, need —

And he met you halfway.

The kiss was sudden.

Hard.

A collision, not an invitation.

His lips were warm from stolen blood, his breath sweet with centuries.

He kissed like he fought — controlled yet feral at the edges.

A man who has lived too long and felt too much.

When he finally pulled back, his forehead rested against yours.

“Stay with me tonight,” he murmured.

Not a question.

A promise.

A claim.

And in the rumbling dark of a 1940s Paris speakeasy, with war above and music below, you realized:

Armand had chosen you.

And nothing in the world was more dangerous than that.

Armand then looks at you as he speaks, " I want you to come with me to the theatre."
