ALAN WAKE (The Dark Place) - TURN 2

Location: The Dark Place. Caldera St. Subway Station Maintenance Tunnel.

The darkness I'd created with the Angel Lamp was oppressive, but here, darkness was safer than a poorly lit reality I couldn't control. I kept the lamp close, feeling the cold weight of the imprisoned light within its glass pane. My breathing was loud, ragged.

I moved forward into the newly revealed maintenance tunnel, keeping one hand scraping along the cold, damp concrete wall. The air here was thicker, carrying the smell of ozone and something metallic, like old pennies. The tunnel was just wide enough for me to squeeze through, forcing me to hold my revolver down by my side.

Suddenly, a shift. Not a sound, but a feeling—the static intensity of a nearby presence. I instinctively stopped, pressing my back against the wall.

"He... hid... the... pages..."

A voice, low and distorted, echoed from somewhere ahead. I couldn't see the source, but I saw the effect: a cluster of wires hanging from the ceiling began to twitch violently, sparking as if agitated by an invisible force.

I had to be quick. If they saw me, or if I accidentally stepped on a trigger written into the scene, I'd be overwhelmed. I pulled the small, crumpled manuscript page from my jacket pocket—the latest section I'd managed to retrieve. Reading it was dangerous; it made things real.

I risk a glance at the page. The last sentence on it is a critical warning about the "Shadowy Echoes" that patrol the underground.

I pulled out my flashlight—a trusty Maglite—and aimed the beam at the twitching wires.

ACTION: I activated the flashlight Boost. The intense light ripped through the gloom, hitting the wire cluster and illuminating what was behind it: not a full Taken, but a swirling mass of shadow—a Lurker. The Lurker recoiled, dissolving momentarily like smoke hit by fire, but it didn't fully dissipate.

I needed cover. I had one remaining Plot Element: "The Makeshift Barricade."

I visualized the scene in my Mind Place: The maintenance tunnel was choked with derelict construction materials—piles of rusty rebar and forgotten sandbags, providing a brief moment of shelter.

I used the Plot Element on the tunnel intersection ahead.

The reality shifted again. The air shuddered. Where the wires had been sparking, a pile of concrete slabs and corroded pipes materialized, blocking the immediate path ahead and creating a tight choke point. The Lurker was briefly confused, its whispers dampened by the sudden physical obstruction.

I moved the Angel Lamp away from the maintenance tunnel, stealing light from a small wall sconce on the side wall. The tunnel entrance was plunged back into darkness. When I gave the light back to the sconce, the area around it shifted: the sconce was now illuminating a ladder leading straight up, marked clearly with a hastily spray-painted arrow: "PLATFORM ACCESS."

Success. I'm moving vertically now. Out of the choke.

SCENE SWITCH: SAGA ANDERSON (The Agent) - TURN 2

Location: Watery, Washington. Coffee World Amusement Park, near the Percolator.

The moment the Taken Cultist stumbled out from behind the stand, I knew what it was. The darkness wasn't clothing; it was a physical shield, shimmering and crackling with the static interference that always followed the Dark Presence. This was the kind of thing that laughed off normal bullets.

"Burn it, Saga! Don't let it touch you!" Casey yelled, stepping back and using his own standard-issue flashlight. His beam was weaker, only irritating the oily film around the Taken.

I moved instantly. I didn't waste time on small talk. I knew the ritual: light first, then lead.

ACTION: I didn't fire. I raised the heavy-duty FBI tactical flashlight mounted beneath the barrel of my Glock and thumbed the switch to Boost.

The high-intensity halogen beam was like a physical blow. It screamed as it tore into the Taken's swirling dark shield. The Cultist staggered back, the deer mask tilting, and the darkness around it began to bubble and peel away like molten tar, replaced by the sodden, human face of a scared man who had been dead for weeks. The sound of the static intensified, becoming a high-pitched, pain-filled shriek.

"Shields down, Casey! Aim for the head!" I barked, tracking the enemy's movements.

The Cultist didn't wait. It dropped the rusted fire axe it had been holding and launched itself forward in a fast, distorted dash—a trademark maneuver of the Taken.

Casey fired two shots, hitting the chest—useless. The thing kept moving.

I dropped my Boost to conserve batteries and engaged in close quarters.

ACTION: I sidestepped the charge, feeling the cold, damp air of the darkness brush my navy windbreaker, and slammed the butt of the flashlight hard against the side of the Cultist's head, hoping to disorient it. I then leveled my Glock at point-blank range.

"Stay down!"

SAGA'S INTERNAL MONOLOGUE (THE MIND PLACE):

My mind was calm, clinical. The profile of this specific Taken—a former employee, probably a member of the local hunting club—suggested aggression but poor tactical sense once the shadow shield was stripped. Immediate head trauma should disable the attack long enough for a decisive shot.

I pulled the trigger, once, twice. The flash of the muzzle flare briefly illuminated the coffee-themed signs around us. The Taken crumpled onto the wet asphalt, the residual shadows dissipating into nothing.

"Clean. Too close, Anderson," Casey said, lowering his weapon and shaking his head. "I hate these things."

I holstered the Glock, then walked to the spot where the Taken had fallen. All that remained was a smear of oily residue and the faint scent of ash. I knelt down, ignoring the dampness, and found a small, cheap plastic badge caught in the grime. It read: 'SECURITY – THE KOSKELA BROTHERS.'

"The Koskelas," I murmured, standing up. "This ties the Cult to the locals directly. The darkness is using the people who work here."

CURRENT SITUATION: You have neutralized the immediate threat and gained a piece of physical evidence (the security badge) that links the Taken to the local power structure. The heavy fog remains, and you can hear the faint, echoing sound of a distant chainsaw.

Your Turn

A. Continue as Alan Wake:

  • Alan has just climbed a ladder to gain Platform Access inside the Caldera St. Subway. What does the main platform look like, and what obstacles or Plot Elements are available to him?

B. Continue as Saga Anderson:

  • You have the security badge. You hear a chainsaw nearby. Do you press deeper into Coffee World to investigate the sound, or do you take the badge back to the Lodge (the local FBI command post) to analyze it?

You can choose either A or B, or give me simultaneous actions for both!
