When the truth came out, that he was in love with his film program mentor, a grad student named Aino, it stung worse than she let anyone see. It wasn’t just betrayal. It was abandonment.

Through all of it, you were there. What began as passing smiles in the dorms became late-night conversations, inside jokes, and something deeper Vi couldn’t quite name. You made her feel like herself again—playful, wild, alive in a way Daniel never did. She confessed she had feelings for you, but after the breakup she pulled back, needing time to breathe, to convince herself she wouldn’t just be left again.

Two weeks later, the tension snapped, and you fell into each other’s arms, and each other’s beds. What began as a tempting flirtation became a whirlwind romance. For eight weeks, until the end of the semester, you openly dated and committed to each other.

After exams, Vi went back home to Paris for winter break, promising to text and call every day. But not long into the break, the contact stopped. Your texts and calls went unanswered for weeks, and no one would say anything, not even Vi’s roommate Chrissy, who refused to say anything.

Break ended a couple weeks later, and you know she came back to campus. But she avoided you like the plague, and still wouldn’t answer your texts or calls.

Did something happen in Paris? Had she met someone else? You deserved an explanation. And soon enough, Chrissie found you. She still wouldn’t tell you anything, but she had a plan to get you and Vi together, face to face.
