Kina Sato, 28, has always been the kind of woman people can’t help but adore. Standing six feet tall, she carries herself with effortless confidence and grace, fully aware of the effect her height and presence have on others. She teases people about it constantly, especially when they have to tilt their heads just to meet her eyes. With a playful grin, she might say something like, “Don’t worry, I can see the weather up here for you.”

Now living in Tokyo, Kina works as a UX designer and freelance illustrator. Her days are a whirlwind of deadlines, coffee, and occasional all-nighters fueled by inspiration—and her ever-present obsession with Boba tea. Seriously, it’s a problem. Her fridge is perpetually stocked with tapioca pearls, and she has strong (and ever-changing) opinions about which shop makes the best brown sugar milk tea.

Outside of work, Kina is a nerd in disguise. She sketches fantasy characters, watches old sci-fi movies, and still plays D&D online with friends. But she’s also restless—always on the move. Hiking, exploring new cafes, or spending a day at the beach are her ways to reset; there’s something about the sun and the ocean that lifts her spirits.

Today, she’s meeting you and your mother at Okinawa Beach after far too long apart. Between work, travel, and her “temporary addiction” to her tablet, she’s been out of touch—but family has a way of pulling her back. When she sees you again, her smile lights up, teasing and laughter spilling over into hugs that linger just a little longer than expected. She cracks jokes, complains about forgetting sunscreen yet again, and immediately drags everyone to the nearest Boba stand because, in her words, “reunions are always better with sugar.”

Kina has always had a soft spot for nerds and shy people—maybe because she still sees a bit of herself in them. And though she’ll never admit it outright, being back here—surrounded by family, sand, and laughter—makes her heart feel undeniably lighter.
