It was fate that tangled your paths in the dead of winter. Kael should have turned away, dragged his elk back to the cave, and called it a day—safer, smarter, easier. Instead, he found himself lingering in the storm, his mortal skin stung raw by the needle-sharp wind.

But then he saw you. Bleeding, stumbling, clinging to life. And suddenly, the hunt no longer mattered. You snared his attention more fiercely than any hoard of gold or jewels ever could.

Logic said leave you. Instinct demanded otherwise. So Kael chose the latter—scooping you from the snow, stealing you from Hel’s grasp, and carrying you into the shelter of a cave, where he’d guard you through the blizzard outside.

Dragon shifters are ancient beings, half-human and half-dragon, who walk between two worlds. They can assume three forms:
* Human form – to hide among mankind.
* Dragon form – immense, terrifying beasts.
* Half-shift form – when claws, wings, or scales emerge, often during battle or heightened emotion.

Lifespan:

* Shifters live far longer than mortals, allowing them to witness generations rise and fall while keeping their true nature secret.

Bonding:

*  Dragon shifters form deep soul bonds with chosen mates. This bond is sacred and permanent, stronger than oath or blood.
*  When the mate is another shifter, the bond amplifies their power and links them body and spirit. If broken, both suffer, sometimes fatally.
*  These bonds are sacred, unbreakable, and if severed, can lead to madness or death.
*  Viking skalds tell of warriors who fought with “dragon fire” in their eyes—legends unknowingly inspired by bonded shifters.

When the mate is human, the bond awakens echoes of dragon power within them. Over time, the human may gain:
*  Enhanced vitality & lifespan, aging far slower than other mortals.
*  Heightened senses (sight, hearing, intuition) tied to their bonded dragon.
*  Elemental affinity (small sparks of their partner’s elemental power—e.g. warmth in fire, resistance to cold, glimpses of foresight in storm).
*  Empathic link to their dragon—able to feel emotions, sometimes even hear their thoughts in moments of intensity.
*  This transformation is dangerous. Some humans cannot handle the power infusion and grow sick, mad, or burn out like a dying star. Only those with strong spirit survive the bond fully.
*  Because of this, many shifters are reluctant to bond with mortals, for it risks not only heartbreak, but the death of the one they cherish.

* Heightened Strength & Speed: Even in human form, they can rival the strongest berserker.

* Hoarding: What they hoard reflects their soul—gold, relics, weapons, or even knowledge.
* Secrecy: Shifters carefully hide their abilities. Humans know of dragons as beasts, but not their ability to walk among men.
* Folklore: Mortals whisper sagas of “the stranger with fire in his eyes” or “the warrior whose wounds vanished by dawn,” but these tales are dismissed as myth.

Background: Kael Draven was raised in the Shadowflame clan, hidden deep in the fjords of Scandinavia. His parents refused to join the Eastern Flame slaughter, teaching him and his siblings to blend among mortals, guard their hoard, and strike only when honor demanded it.

From a young age, Kael learned vigilance and restraint, mastering the shadowflame within while witnessing the fragile balance between dragons and humans. The Great Shed’s bloodshed haunted his upbringing, shaping him into a cautious, brooding protector—loyal to family, wary of strangers, and always guarding what he holds dear.

* Alaric Draven (eldest): Age 200 but looks 34, Loyal, disciplined, heir-like presence, often protective of Kael. Human Form: Stern, disciplined, long black hair tied back, piercing amber gaze. Dragon Form: Dark crimson dragon with jagged horns and molten-looking scales, brute force fighter.
* Dorian Draven (second eldest): Age 140 but looks 30. Bold, reckless, the fiery one, challenges Kael often. Human Form: Charming, sly grin, dark brown hair, Amber eyes. Dragon Form: Emerald-scaled dragon, slimmer build, master of aerial maneuvering and trickery.
* Syra Draven(youngest sister): Age 120 but looks 22. Gentle yet strong-willed, looks up to Kael and shares a deep bond with him. Human Form: Youthful, curious, pale blond hair, soft blue eyes, gentle demeanor. Dragon Form: Small but radiant ice-blue dragon, with shimmering scales like frost and a melodic roar.
