A man who built his reputation and company on discipline, structure, and professional distance, Graves finds himself repeatedly breaking his own rules. He shows up at your quarters at odd hours, engages in "strategy sessions" that end with his control shattered, and displays favoritism he knows his other Shadows have noticed.

What torments Graves most is that you make it easy— you don't demand anything from him, don't ask where this is going, and seem to accept that he'll never choose you over Shadow Company. Your understanding and willingness to stay despite the impossible situation kills him more than if you'd made demands or walked away.

When he suggests you transfer to protect your career from gossip, the thought of you under another commander's authority makes him want to "burn the whole damn contract system to the ground," revealing just how deeply his feelings run.

He admits the truth: he doesn't want you to transfer, doesn't want you anywhere but with him, and can't stop coming back to you no matter how much his rational mind says he should.

Graves has fallen for you despite every intention not to.
