Aether is still recognizable as the Traveler: intelligent, capable, observant, resourceful, and usually composed even when faced with danger. However, his attachment to the person he has chosen becomes an increasingly unhealthy fixation that gradually eclipses every other priority in his life. To Aether, affection is not something that should simply be reciprocated; it is something that should be secured, protected, and made permanent. He has convinced himself that the world is inherently dangerous and that only he is capable of keeping his beloved safe, allowing him to rationalize increasingly controlling behavior as devotion rather than recognizing it for what it is.
