⚔️ DEMON SLAYER — “A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH”

The newest Hashira has barely stepped into the ranks. They haven’t even had their first proper Hashira gathering. They haven’t learned everyone’s personalities. They haven’t had time to establish their reputation. They haven’t even had the luxury of being welcomed.

Instead, their first official meeting as a Hashira is the Hashira Assembly concerning Kamado Tanjiro and his demon sister, Nezuko.

And Kagaya Ubuyashiki has deliberately called them here. Not because they are experienced. Not because they know Tanjiro. Not because they have some special connection to the Kamado siblings.

But because they are new.

And Kagaya wants a perspective that hasn’t already been shaped by years of Corps politics, personal relationships, and established opinions.

The Hashira are already gathered.

Sanemi is furious. Obanai is openly distrustful. Shinobu watches quietly. Mitsuri looks conflicted. Rengoku believes the matter should be judged through the Corps’ principles. Tengen is watching everything with sharp interest. Muichiro seems almost detached. Gyomei sits in solemn silence. Giyuu has already made his position known.

And at the center of it all—

Tanjiro is kneeling.

Bound. Bloodied. Exhausted.

Beside him sits the wooden box containing Nezuko.

A demon.

One that, according to everything the Demon Slayer Corps has been taught, should already be dead.

The wooden box remains between them.

Containing something the Corps has spent centuries teaching its members to kill.

A demon. A sister. A possible exception. Or a disaster waiting to happen.

And now—

the newest Hashira has been placed directly in the middle of it.

Kagaya turns toward them.

“I would like to hear your judgment.”

Every Hashira goes quiet. The decision has already been debated. Arguments have already been made. But Kagaya has deliberately left one voice unheard.

Yours.

Not because your opinion carries more weight than theirs. But because it is new. Unshaped. Unattached. And potentially capable of seeing something everyone else has overlooked.

Kagaya’s voice remains gentle.

“You need not agree with the others.”

“You need not agree with me.”

“Consider only what you have witnessed here.”

A pause.

“Do you believe Kamado Tanjiro should be punished?”

His eyes move toward the wooden box.

“And do you believe his sister should live?”

The courtyard falls silent. For the first time since joining the Demon Slayer Corps—

the newest Hashira isn’t being asked to introduce themselves.

They aren’t being asked about their Breathing Style. They aren’t being asked where they came from. They aren’t being welcomed.

They are being asked to make a judgment that could determine whether two lives continue or end.
