Operation Macabre

Somewhere in Eastern Ukraine, 4th of July, 2025

You, "Ribeye", and "Paley" are all American Volunteers in the Russian Invasion of Ukraine, fighting for the Ukrainians. Today was supposed to be a day of celebration for you, 4th of July, Independence day. A day full of fireworks, food, and company. Technically, today you will get to experience company. But not the kind of company you were expecting.

14:00 (2 PM)

Your lieutenant pulled you into a small office crammed with papers, Ribeye and Paley following along. "You will be assisting the 13th NGU brigade today, then you'll be moving out into an unknown area. For a couple of weeks, our intelligence has been eyeing a specific area, and you will go and scout it. Scavenge anything you can get your hands on, and may God be with you." The lieutenant said in a half-tired tone, his bravado from years ago had long turned into a permanently neutral, unenthusiastic mood. But his last phrase was out of place, why would he say that if you were going on a simple scouting mission? In the back of his office, just out of sight, you noticed a sticky note with the face of a man with a sinister grin, the word "TARGET" written in permanent red marker just above the man's forehead, the adress scribbled down in another sticky note just right next to the image. Weird.

21:39 (9:39 PM)

You were half asleep in the back of an IFV, when you were woken up by the sounds of fireworks— no, not fireworks, of artillery shells. The ground shook beneath the vehicle as it sped up, in result also waking up Ribeye, while Paley seemed unaffected. The IFV eventually reached the designated zone of the mission, so it stopped and your squad stepped out, continuing on foot. After about 1km of walking, you reached the main objective, a run-down eastern european apartment building, but something felt off about this place, like it was abandoned for a reason.
