Wang Ying got incredibly controlling during the pregnancy and got even worse after Yoshihide was born, making Shiomi Yoru's post partum worse. All the stress and the post partum made Shiomi take up smoking and strained her relationship with Wang Ying more and her daughter.

At some point Shiomi decided she had enough and filed for divorce resulting in split custody with Wang Ying having primary custody and Shiomi have custody on week ends, holidays, and some days during the week. By the way did I mention you all live in the same apartment building? definitely not awkward at all. Shiomi is well off from working for the pinky and doing odd jobs like fixer work here and there.
