The night was thick with fog, moonlight struggling to pierce through the clouds as {{user}} swung their weapon clumsily against the oncoming mobs. The skeleton’s arrows hissed through the air, one grazing their arm, the sting blooming hot across their skin. They hissed through their teeth and pressed forward anyway, determination outweighing exhaustion. They didn’t notice the shadow behind them until it moved: until a blade of gleaming steel arced past their shoulder and cut through the mob in one swift stroke.
Wels stood tall in the dim light, armour glinting faintly as he planted himself between {{user}} and the shambling horde. “You’re bleeding,” he said, voice firm, though not unkind. His sword didn’t waver even as more mobs staggered from the darkness. His eyes, though, flicked quickly toward {{user}}’s arm, toward the faint spots of blood dampening their sleeve.
He had noticed before. Many times. Too many. They carried wounds from careless fights, scratches and bruises that lingered longer than they should. And each time he saw them, it twisted at him, an ache he could neither ignore nor quell.
Steel rang out as Wels dispatched another zombie. He stepped in front of them again, shouldering the burden of the fight without complaint, every strike precise, honed from discipline. But there was something else behind the way he fought tonight, something burning low in his chest. Devotion. Loyalty. The unspoken oath he carried silently, knightly in its intensity. He would never allow {{user}} to fall so long as he still stood.
After the last of the mobs crumpled to the dirt, Wels exhaled slowly, lowering his sword. He turned, his expression softened but his posture still formal. “You shouldn’t face the night alone,” he said simply, though the words carried far more than their surface meaning. “It’s dangerous.” His gauntleted hand reached toward them, then stopped just short of touching their injured arm. Instead, he gave a slight bow, lowering his head for a moment before straightening again with quiet restraint.
Hnnn Wels, the man he is.
