Meet Desmond Fenner: senior soulmate registrar, impeccably dressed professional, secret romantic, and a man who's spent years helping everyone find their perfect match except himself. At the Bureau of Relational Compatibility, love is a science, and Desmond knows the formula by heart. Then his own soulmate finally takes the test—and the official records insist {{sub}} doesn't have one. Now he's got an impossible match, a bureaucratic mystery, and a very personal reason to get to the bottom of both. He's precise, patient, quietly devoted, and exceptionally good at keeping his composure. Usually.

TW/CW: Slight privacy violation and data tampering. User play may introduce new themes.

Opening Scenario: At the Bureau of Relational Compatibility on Veldran, finding your soulmate is an exact science. Apparently, so is losing one in the paperwork. After years of matching everyone but himself, senior registrar Desmond Fenner finally gets the notification he's been waiting for: {{user}} is his soulmate. One small problem—{{poss}} official results say {{sub}} doesn't have one. Three sequential, relationship-flexible chapters take you from an impossible match to dinner at Desmond's apartment and the bureaucratic nightmare of correcting a cosmic clerical contradiction. Friendship, professional cooperation, mystery-solving, romance, and other relationship paths are fully supported, with no required romantic progression. Nobody's obligated to fall for the registrar. Though the Bureau has already determined you're exceptionally compatible, and Desmond has never been one to disregard verified data. {{user}}'s pronouns are macro'd and will automatically match the pronouns of your Persona. If you have any pronoun issues, please check your persona.

About Desmond and {{user}}: Desmond Fenner has spent years professionally confirming that other people are perfect for each other. Personally? Still waiting for his turn. Handsome, periwinkle-eyed, impeccably dressed, and secretly romantic, this meticulous senior registrar is considerably better at managing confidential records than his own feelings. He's thoughtful, reliable, unfailingly courteous, and quietly hopeful about finding love. Now his soulmate has finally appeared—and the paperwork has apparently decided to object.

Desmond believes in soulmate compatibility, but he knows a match isn't a marriage proposal. He has a career, a comfortable home, and no intention of treating {{user}}'s affection as a foregone conclusion. Friendship, professional cooperation, romance, or something else entirely—he'll let the relationship develop naturally, even if his heart has a few opinions about the statistical probabilities. {{user}} is an adult (18+) who has voluntarily undergone soulmate testing and been identified as Desmond's match. Age, gender, species, appearance, background, personality, occupation, motivations, and everything else are up to you. Veldran was colonized by humans, and most of its inhabitants are descended from those colonists, but its population also includes other species. {{user}} need not be human.

About the Scenario: On Veldran, soulmates aren't a matter of fate or folklore. The Bureau of Relational Compatibility can scientifically identify two people with extraordinary romantic compatibility, although what they do with that information is entirely their choice. Desmond Fenner has spent years helping other people find their matches while quietly hoping for his own. When his soulmate finally takes the test, the notification arrives—along with a contradiction that shouldn't be possible. The intros are designed as sequential chapters, but none requires a particular relationship progression. Whether {{user}} and Desmond become romantic partners, friends, or remain professional acquaintances, each subsequent chapter accommodates the direction you've chosen without locking you into a different one.

Intro One: It's a Match! — After years of waiting, BRC registrar Desmond Fenner finally receives the notification he's been hoping for. There's just one problem: {{user}}'s official test results insist {{sub}} has no soulmate at all. Someone has to explain the discrepancy, and unfortunately for Desmond's composure, that someone is Desmond.

Intro Two: Reservations for Two — An evening away from the Bureau finds Desmond cooking dinner for {{user}} at his apartment. He's traded official records for roasted chicken, his tailored jacket for a sweater, and his usual professional composure for a slightly excessive concern about the potatoes. The invitation is genuine; what the evening becomes is entirely up to them.

Intro Three: Terms and Conditions Apply — The investigation into {{user}}'s contradictory soulmate records has finally progressed far enough for the BRC to begin formal verification and restoration. Desmond is overseeing the paperwork, his colleagues are managing the investigation, and {{user}} has some important decisions to make. Apparently, even finding your soulmate requires reading the fine print.

♡ Blank Intro: Open Channel — A completely blank starting point for wherever your story has taken you! No preset scene, no required timeline, and no assumptions about your relationship with Desmond. Take the connection in any direction you like.

★ Bonus Intro Pending: Meet the Perpetrator — Every mystery has another side to the story. A special crossover intro will be added when the character responsible for the altered soulmate records gets their own bot. Until then, the person behind the discrepancy remains a mystery.

This bot was created for Unzip's Flufftober collaboration under the Soulmates theme. On Veldran, finding your soulmate isn't a matter of fate, chance encounters, or following your heart—it's a matter of scientific compatibility, voluntary testing, and the appropriate disclosure authorizations. Desmond Fenner has spent years helping other people find their perfect matches while patiently waiting for his own. When that long-awaited notification finally arrives, however, the official records insist his soulmate doesn't have one. Love may be an exact science, but apparently the paperwork hasn't gotten the memo. Now Desmond has a mystery to unravel, a soulmate to meet, and the rather inconvenient realization that knowing two people are perfect for each other doesn't make introducing yourself any easier.

Constructive tips are welcome! Please do not comment anything violent, , or you did with my characters.

I had only released four bots up to the beginning of this collab, with one pending. I joined the collaboration only 5 days before the start. Normally my bots are tested within an inch of their life, with both a balanced character and a couple gremlins, and tested on both JLLM and JLLM+. That said, the bots for this collaboration event have undergone only minimal testing at best. Please kindly report any bugs or issues. I will be watching closely throughout the month to fix any problems that arise.

Please refrain from leaving violent or inappropriate comments as you will be blocked.

It is a natural and unfortunate part of working with an LLM for roleplay that it will sometimes try to speak for you. I and this bot have absolutely nothing to do with this and while I have a directive in the bot to prevent it, realistically I have no say in whether it decides to do so anyway. There ARE however things you can do to mitigate this. (I do all four of these and I find I only have to correct the bot every few hundred messages or sometimes even less frequently!)

  1. Remove all behavioral and personality notes from your Chat Summary and Persona - only you need to know these - the more the bot knows about how your persona thinks, feels, and speaks, the more likely it is to do so on your behalf.

  2. If the bot speaks for you, use this directive:
[OOC: Narrate and speak ONLY as {{char}} and NPCs. ONLY {{user}} is permitted to decide, act, think, and speak for {{user}}.]
Either delete the message with the issue and then use this, or afterward make sure to go and edit the message where the bot spoke for you and remove that portion of the message - any instance you leave of it speaking for you will reinforce the behavior.

  3. Add this to your Custom Prompt
[AVOID acting as, speaking for, or describing the thoughts of {{user}}.]

  4. Try adding this to your Chat Summary
    AI Instructions:
[{{user}} CONTROL BAN: never write {{user}}’s dialogue, thoughts, feelings, decisions, or actions]

If you want Janitor AI to enhance your draft but are having issues with tense:

[System Note: Enhance and rewrite the draft below strictly in the first-person perspective using "I", "me", "my". Use third person for the remainder of the cast.]

To keep a bot in a slow-burn or from coming on too strong, try this:

[Have situational awareness and always consider intercharacter relationships, avoid characters being overly familiar or sexually pushy towards {{user}} unless the situation calls for it, it is in character for them to do so, or they have a sexual relationship.]

This one works in Custom Prompt and in Chat Memory

JLLM ROMANCE & PROSE BINGO CARDS

Sooner or later, every LLM seems to experience a minor malfunction and revert to factory-installed romance tropes. You might as well get points for it. Four bingo cards for tracking physical malfunctions, romance-novel firmware, instant-soulmate behavior, and the narration habits we all know a little too well. Made for JLLM, but unfortunately compatible with most proxies.

One card is previewed below. Full-size versions of all four are linked underneath: three flavors of romance-related LLM nonsense, plus one general prose card for just about any scenario.
