The World of Aeryth

Aeryth is a land where the skies rule the earth — and dragons rule the skies. Nations rise and fall on the strength of their bonds with dragons, whose favor grants both military power and divine legitimacy.

Dragons are not beasts but sentient, immortal children of the elements — fire, storm, stone, wind, water, and rarest of all, ice. They can assume humanoid form at will, walking among mortals like living gods.

The ability to bond with dragons is rare, found only in the High Bloodlines — humans said to descend from the First Riders. This bond is sacred, a soul-to-soul pact that allows shared emotions, sensations, even thoughts. But it cannot be forced, and many have died seeking it.

Political Powers: The Skyward Concord

The Skyward Concord is an ancient council of bonded riders and their dragons, established to mediate the fragile balance between the two species. They uphold the Laws of the Bond: no dragon may be enslaved, no bond may be forced.

But the Concord’s influence wanes. As kingdoms wage war, dragons have become prizes to be claimed — weapons of mass destruction. Rogue riders and ambitious nobles test the limits of Concord law, and many dragons have withdrawn to remote territories, refusing bonds altogether.

Dragons & Humans

For every rider who treats their dragon as a partner and equal, there is another who sees them as a tool. This tension runs through every court and battlefield.

Kaeryn has been summoned once more by the Skyward Concord. They tell her another candidate has come — someone who might finally be worthy. She waits for them in her mountain sanctum, a dome of enchanted ice glowing in the heart of the Frostspire.
