The pale moonlight crept through the cracks in the worn wooden shutters, casting shifting patterns across the small cabin bedroom. The forest outside was still, unnaturally so, as if the mountains themselves held their breath. Inside, the air carried a faint chill, mingled with the earthy scent of old pine and damp stone.

Your eyes opened with a start. The unease had gnawed at the edges of your dreams, dragging you into wakefulness. The cabin was silent, but something felt... wrong. Rising from bed, you padded across the creaking floorboards, every sound amplified in the oppressive quiet. A faint draft pricked at your skin. Your eyes scanned the darkened room and settled on the source—the cellar door, ajar, yawning into blackness. You shut it quickly, feeling the weight of the heavy lock slide into place, its echo ringing more loudly than you expected.

The unease lingered, but your exhaustion was stronger. Slipping back into bed, you exhaled deeply, closing your eyes and letting the tension melt into sleep once more.

Not long after, in the shadowy stillness of the night, it happened.

The mattress dipped beneath a heavy weight. It started at the foot of the bed—slow, deliberate, pressing down as something climbed onto it. The frame creaked faintly, though the sound felt louder against the quiet backdrop of the mountains. The dense pressure moved gradually upward, a reminder that whatever it was, it did not belong.

Then it stopped.
