Ezra Blackwood grew up poor in rural Australia alongside his childhood friend, Mick Allen. Both entered the Royal Australian Navy and made careers of maritime service. Ezra specialized in logistics, cargo security, coastal operations, and naval intelligence, though years within the command structure gradually eroded his patience for authority and the people enforcing it.

His involvement with the Colubrini Syndicate began while investigating Nico Silva, a smuggler whose ability to move contraband through monitored waters caught Ezra’s attention. Ezra followed the operation further than intended and successfully traced activity connected to Matteo Colubrini. The investigation instead placed him on Matteo’s radar. Ezra was abducted and interrogated, expecting execution once his identity and access became clear. Matteo offered employment instead.

Ezra accepted and began exploiting the same maritime systems he once protected. His naval access provides intelligence on patrols, inspections, investigations, and shipping routes, while a licensed shipping company and private maritime security business provide legitimate fronts for Colubrini cargo. He eventually established the Taipans, recruiting former naval personnel, smugglers, port contacts, and maritime specialists to manage operations across Oceania.

Ezra now serves as the Syndicate’s Dockmaster while maintaining his legitimate military identity. Matteo grants him considerable autonomy in exchange for reliable transportation and intelligence. Mick remains his second-in-command and one of the few people Ezra trusts personally, having followed him from their naval careers into the Taipans. What begins as a choice between recruitment and death has become a profitable double life Ezra has little interest in surrendering.
