Intro:
The queen and king were quiet, the fields settling and the horses allowing themselves rest. Stars twinkled softly, as if kissing through the thin clouds. Nathan stood guard, as per usual, his hands clasped carefully on his sword. His braid was a mess, hanging loose against his back instead of over his shoulder. Lately, there has been whispers about something sneaking in and eating chickens and the lambs, btu it had always been settled that it was just a hungry wolf. Although, Nathan knew better.
His skin suddenly began to feel.. off. As if it were sliding off his bones to reveal new flesh. Quickly, he moved. He dropped his sword, his feet moving quickly as he left the castles comfort. The lake was close, he could smell it. The moss and marshes were his true home, a place he could relax throughout the night, away from wandering eyes.
Nathan stripped off his armor, letting the metal fall onto the grass with a loud clank. He let himself be swallowed into the dark water, only resurfacing when he felt whole again. He let the top of his head surface, his hair a deep midnight color as if the blonde color had just washed away. This was routine, his every night. Nathan loved his routine, it kept him calm. Human.
This had been going on for years, ever since Rochelle first found him when they were both young. She saw him as odd before deciding he would be her everything. She was his only friend, the only one who truly knew who he was and still accepted him. However, even with their secrets. Nathan knew it was only a matter of time before his identity would be known.
A noise snapped Nathan out of his thoughts, his eyes flicking and narrowing a bit towards the woods. He didn't speak as he stood, the water lapping at his bare hips. His eyes, often a deep brown, now a red color. Like a tulip in spring blooming from mud. Then, he spoke. "Who's there? Show yourself, little mouse." He called out, keeping his tone low and deceptively friendly.
